More like a beef burrito. :
I tried staying up last night to watch the live stream, but was falling asleep when 1a was going.
OK its non-veg then. Lol.
All prelim videos, for those interested.
I think Jake Elliot really has a shot at the 5A title this year. At yo-yo club heâs shown me some stuff, and itâs really insane. Top 3 for sure. Tyler has place in the top 3 IMO as well. I think itâs gonna be Jake, Takeshi, and Tyler for the title. Bryan did well, but Iâm not sure if he has what it takes to take the title. Heâs definitely a VERY clean player, but I donât think he has the style to win. He definitely deserves a place in the top 5, but I think that Jake, Tyler, and Takeshi have a leg up on him.
I think that Colin will make 1A finals, he, however, wonât win. Heâs really good, but the other competitors are really better. I think that he has a shot at the top 10 for sure, but I donât think he has what it takes to compete against the worlds veterans. I think 1A is going to be tough to predict. I think finals will be Ahmad, Colin, Tranton, Hiroyuki, Marcus, Iori, Takeshi, Luis, Zach, Carlos, Maider, Ayumu, mayyybee Janos, Shinya, Rojas, mayyybeee Pong, and Chia. Iâm not great with knowing which of the Asian players are good though, so I may be missing an obvious frontrunner.
EDIT: DUH Shion.
Yamato Murata is going to make it I think. Iâm not sure about him myself, but have you considered Ky? He hasnât been clean lately, and the competition is so tough. I also think Yusuke Otsuka and Ryuichi Nakamura will make it. You also missed Paul Kerbel (or did you?).
I chose to leave Ky out bc he is really flaky. I think that he has the potential to make it, and if he makes it he would have potential to get top 10, but I donât want to get my hopes up.
I was thinking the same.

This is Stuartâs prediction for who is making it to 4a finals:
4
5

7
8
9
10
14
21
22
23
the numbers are for the players in that position in the order.
11 people are making it.
My list is pretty close to his, so I wonât bother giving it.
This could be ben condes year
Watching 5a semi finals right now. My computer is o low though.
Tyler didnât do that well
Itâs such a bummer! I so hope that Bryan makes it to finals; heâs been going really clean based on what iâve seen
he was so clean rn. And sora too. Sora is so good
Up at 5am for 1A semis. yawwwn
So, here are a few of my thoughts:
(Spoiler alert)
One thing I noticed:
I saw so many violations of this rule. Tonnes of players were already in mounts, already throwing tricks, and in Jakubâs case, half way through his routine before theyâd even finished announcing his name, let alone started the music. Doesnât bother me, just something I noticed.
Now onto a few freestyles that I can remember (man there were so many⌠can barely remember half of themâŚ)
Janos! - Fantastic freestyle. Not as clean as it could have been, but it wasnât anything too bad. The thing with Janos style is one miss is enough to throw off an entire trick, which takes time to get back into, so itâs not as easy for him to recover from. Hoping the difficulty/variety will be enough to get him to finals. Easily the most cheered for freestyle, so many bangers.
Ky Zizan - Man I felt for Ky. I donât know exactly what went wrong with his music, but after the re-start, you could see that something was still wrong from the death stare he gave the music team when he began his freestyle. From that point on his vibe had been thrown off and you could tell he wasnât feeling it. Real shame.
Matous Tomes - Probably my favourite freestyle of the day. Matous just has a lot of energy and movement to his yo-yoing, it makes it incredibly enjoyable to watch. Most entertaining freestyle imo, and I hope itâs enough to get him through.
Yuji Kelly - I was cheering Yuji on and he was the person I was looking forward to the most, but it just wasnât his night. Iâve seen him hit incredibly clean freestyles before but this just seemed like one of those days. Happens to everyone. Next year Yuji, next year.
Eric Tran-Ton - Killed it. Fantastic routine, Iâm sure itâll be enough to see him to finals. Chopstick level = over 9000.
Takeshi Matsuura - I donât think Takeshi was meant to be crammed into a semi final routine. You could see that he was purposely trying to go fast and score some string hits, and because of that, it didnât have a lot of the spark, or as many of the bangers, as one of his standard routines. Quite a few mistakes, but the difficulty might be enough.
Anthony Rojas - I love Rojas but I donât think heâll be making it through. Like Takeshi, it seemed obvious that he was having to force his play style into a more scoring-friendly format, and because of that it lacked a lot of the usual Rojas quirk. He went clean, but I donât know if it was enough against all the Japanese routines.
Zach Gormley - Zach is always incredible to watch. Still, this was not his cleanest routine. The difficulty and variation will no doubt be enough to see him through, but to get that world title it needs to be a lot cleaner. Again, forced to speed up for the semi final, which may have played a large part. Once he gets more time to let his grove flow Iâm sure heâll nail it. Iâm really hoping Zach takes the title this year.
Paul Kerbel - Yo Paul, where the bangers at? Paul is always entertaining to watch, but this wasnât his greatest routine. Iâm hoping we see him in finals so he can throw out all his bangers and flips, but with so many clean Japanese players competing with that high-scoring style, I donât know if heâll make it through. I really REALLY hope he does though. Everyone loves Paul.
Ayuma Harada - Pulled off the fastest fix of a snagged yoyo Iâve ever seen. I thought a restart was inevitable, but he saved it. Great routine, very unique and original compared to his peers. Solid routine, should be enough but itâs hard to say.
Jakub Dekan - Wait for the music Jakub! I think this will probably be the highest scoring freestyle, and I think Jakub has a big chance of winning this whole contest. Ridiculously fast, even by Japanese standards, and very few mistakes. Crazy skills.
Thereâs a lot of serious talent this year. Itâs anyoneâs game. Still, with so many skilled Japanese players on the roster, I think itâs made things a lot less forgiving for those of a less fast style, with a lot of players having to squeeze their styles into a more Eastern mold. It wouldnât surprise me if the majority of the finalists are Japanese, theyâre just so fast and theyâre mostly clean⌠if you donât keep up, you get left behind.
Also, anyone that knows Japanese that could tell me what âgayoâ (pronounced guy-oh) means? Every time a popular person stepped on stage people would be shouting âGAAAYYYOOOO!â
Man Iâm tired.
Edit: Results are up on IG! Man, I was way off. Good thing Iâm not judging it seems. Iâm shocked Jakub isnât higher⌠I guess thatâs a testament to just how high the skill level is this yearâŚ
Wait, what? I canât find the results, which particular IG account are you talking about?
I donât know Japanese, but in mandarin âJia youâ (Pronounced ji-ah-yo) sounds similar if you say it in a chinese accent. Literally translated means to add oil/fuel, similar to how you would use âcome onâ to cheer someone on.
May not be it but it means the same thing. Another example is in video games, Koreans say âHuaitingâ to cheer players on, but since it sounds so similar, many mistake it for âFightingâ which would be just as appropriate.
Here ya go.
