The most durable yoyos

Basically, what’s a yoyo that’s indestructible? what yoyos have you tried that won’t break no matter what happens?

Realistically, probably a monometal titanium with Ti side effects.
Can tank a hit, wont strip the threads and shouldn’t “break”. Depends on what you are putting the sucker through?
Dont give it the terminator treatment and it should be good. :joy:

I hear the Survivalist by Spinworthy is very tough. @Glenacius_K has some examples, I’m sure.

any with side effects

Got a Henry’s Viper with Cobra wings from the 90s and it’s flown off and hit all sorts of things many times. A quarter century later it’s still fine.

So perhaps non-intuitively, not a metal/alloy very hard with high yield, impact resistance, hardness, etc… The hub certainly with regards to axle threading, but with wings/rims that inherently deform on impact as a crumple zone. Duncan First Yo! would be another example, though the hub is plastic and can be over-tightened. Viper Remix and Rewind Newt as well. Freshly Dirty Mod44 with silicone wings (might be able to cast it).

A theoretical most durable yoyo though…

For a hub perhaps something like maraging steel (350) with heat aging to increase hardness purely to resist thread stripping.

Or bypass the issue entirely with a bolt and nut(s). The bolt would then require high fracturing resistance. That would be maraging steel. The hub or body could then be a titanium alloy to reduce weight since the bolt and nuts would be heavy.

So basically a bolt and nut made of aged maraging steel, hub made of titanium, and wings made of TPU.

54 gen 2 has thick walls and side effects. mine has taken some hits with no noticeable difference in play. also I’ve been playing one of my forma 5a and i sent it rolling into a brick wall 5 times before i was smart enough to move where i was standing and it didn’t even ding, just anno marks. haven’t drilled concrete with it yet but i imagine based on it so far that it will take the hit like a champ

Forma wouldn’t be the first durable Edition:

He ran over it with his truck and it still worked. This is probably actually the most durable yoyo.

My crucial milk has been bonked a billion times and still is somehow smooth

Haha glad to hear its handling being bumped into things!

I test all our releases for bump/ding durability prior to release. It’s big for us to have releases which last the test of time, mechanically, visually and play wise.

The FTY Project Y was designed for durability as well. Manufactured with AL 7068, I had my kiddo learning in mind while we were working on it.

Duncan first can’t be broken but my dog sure did eat one:sob:

I think ti is the answer

Anything made by Turning Point. Mosu is easily the most durable feeling bimetal I’ve ever used and I expect the same would be true for their monos.

Anything 7075 and side effects. Shout out to the boosted rainier and the crucible (7068). There are some nqp silver and gold ones on the OD website now, probably going to be the best deal you could get on a crucible ever.

Quite possibly, unless One Drop make so many that the second-hand market price plummets. If we look at the Top Deck as a precedent, then I’d say that’s unlikely.

I remember when the original one drop project came out people were trying to break the throw without much luck. I think someone ran one over with their car and it still played well after.

I believe the quality of the aluminum used also matters a lot. A 6061 from OneDrop won’t be the same as a 6061 from MagicYoYo, for example. I could be wrong, but I think it makes a big difference to how aluminum rods are manufactured.

Aluminium is quite malleable and is very low on the Mohs scale, which is why we anodise it (evenly hyper-oxidise the outside) to make it more durable. I hit my Format:C on the earth and it has a permanent black mark in one of the (unanodised) sight lines now. I guess the soil was able to permeate the surface of the metal, lol.
