You can always hug yourself!
Jdrabik: G2 Jake:Nothing that far out of the box. I’ve drawn up a couple very unique shapes but I don’t think you guys are looking for them yet
Actually, I think that some more extravagant/unique shapes would be good for your lineup. The Albatross and Triton have very simple, organic shapes, and while the Nessie is less so, it is still a fairly simple concept. Some people aren’t attracted to shapes like that, so if you did something more dramatic, it could draw those people in. And it would diversify your product line anyways, which is good.
I think the world is ready for some zaniness from Gsquared.
Having just completed my trio of G-squared throws, I can say that the triton and albatross are remarkably different given their very similar specs. It’s a good way to show how important non-dramatic design changes can be!
So in a way, I agree with Jake; they don’t need to go shape-crazy, their designs have enough variety in style. But ultimately, bonkers shapes will get a lot more people looking at G2, if just in a viral “check out this mad design” way, and you’ll likely acquire a bunch of converts!
Why not show us the CADs and have us vote on them? =)
It seems that most people want something comfortable and competition ready.
Some of the designs are far off
And while they would attract attention not many would want to carry them everyday, which is more of my goal when creating yoyos.
WildCat23: G2 Jake: Navythrow:Do you have any plans to revisit the older designs, aka more runs of the Tross or Nessie, or the respective AL7 versions of both? Or are you just looking to the future at this point.
I have some raw tross and Nessies sitting in storage. I’m sure ill get some ano put on them at some point.
Do some raw releases.
Nope. Don’t want to deal with the galling issues raw yoyos are bad news for bearings
They shouldn’t be, so long as your seats are loose enough.
G2 Jake: snowmanjoshu: G2 Jake: snowmanjoshu:Are the AL7 versions of your yoyos identical to the originals in every way except the density of the alloy? Have you modified the design or redistributed the weight to account for that?
Just got my first G2, a Nessie, and I love it. Blew my expectations away. Looking forward to completing my collection!
AL7 are the same just denser. The weight is distributed how we want on the 6061 the 7075 just adds a little weight while keeping the weight distributed how we originally wanted.
Curious, what are your 2 other jobs you’ve mentioned?
I work full time as a fixed asset accountant at a private transportation company.
And I still work part time at church/school doing random jobs for 20 hours a week.
You have ridiculous time management skills. I do much much less than that, and I struggle to find time to work on my side projects
One more question - do you have any zany/off-the-wall yoyo design ideas that you’d like to test? A few days ago I was thinking of an axle-free yoyo design, where the two halves have super strong magnets in the bearing seat to hold it together. Would solve the issue of axle stripping, though you’d need a fully ceramic bearing for it to work.
Got any out-of-the-box ideas like that?
I thought of the magnet idea too!

Yeah, I really want to try a system like this - granted, axle stripping isn’t really a problem that needs to be fixed so urgently (and there are tons of solutions, like side effects, or having a titanium core), but I’m a sucker for unique traits like this.

Why the question mark?
Will you be breaking into the plastic market anytime soon?
I think he already said no to this. Due to the fact that molds costs a lot of money and its probably harder for smaller companies.

Molds are expensive & I don’t have the time, help or desire to assemble 500 yoyos a run. That’s closer to the amount I want to do every year.

I feel like everything looks the same these days or pulls elements from other top yoyos. I think we are getting to that point again where we need some funky designs. When do you think we’ll be ready?

Oh I know your a small company so I was thinking Delrin. Would you ever do a Delrin or another machinable plastic?

Delrin is possible in a smaller run

I do love Delrin. A delrin Triton would go well with the one I have
