Lot to unpack here.
Older Butteflies are great but the new mold ones are AMAZING. I highly recommend finding one. Check here if you need help identifying them:
For string I prefer poly. I use whatever poly I have on hand. Right now it’s OTS Normal, in the past it’s been Kitty Fat, Kitty Normal, and Alphaline.
I do not find that I need to change the string after a few hours of play usually. I also play 2A and there are some 2A players that will change strings after a half hour of play
I would recommend trying a different poly. I prefer poly on steel axles over cotton.
So sick! I definitely want to add this to my arsenal.
Yeah so string is kinda wild and definitely preference like youll find different people like a ton of different stuff. Some people love string bounce and so they switch a ton. I prefer to pre stretch so no bounce at all. I use 100% poly for steel axles and a blend for wood.
String life is kinda like this—string is new no fraying, then it breaks in and you’ll see fraying. That stage is prolly where youre noticing the response increase bc the fraying can stick out. If you power through and keep using the same string, then the fraying kind of mattes back down to itself and it can play good again.
If you aren’t getting enough response, you can use chapstick or double loop the axle.
But uh yeah idk I use string like a very very very long time but some ppl change a lot. Neither is really right or wrong.
Here’s another take on the idea. Joseph Stromme on Instagram: "#fixedaxlefebruary #trickcircle ■■■■■■■■■■■ #yoyo"
Playing with the Spintastics Tigershark that I got in today.
A classic. I tend to use the Manta Ray more but I love the Tiger Shark.

Happy Fixed Friday!
This is probably the coolest, and most impressive trick I have ever seen. Well done dude, well done
Please recommend some fixed axle yo-yos to check out. I’m a bit of a collector at heart or at-least a nuanced way past the point of marginal returns sensory seeking toy enthusiast and want to try out some more fixed axle throws. I get alot of joy out of the subtle differences in “feel” between yo-yos (a carry over trait from my decades of excessively speed cubing).
I’m going to primarily focus on fixed axle (as I did all last month) for the foreseeable future, it speaks to me so much more than unresponsive play.
So hit me up what are some quality, essential, or interesting fixies to throw! I have only played the kasm, modern imperial, modern and many retro butterflys.
Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been discussed ad naseum elsewhere…I’ve had a hard time finding info on 0A hardware. Cheers!
You’ve got some great essentials on there already at least! If you like something with a bit of heft behind it, that’s also still relatively easy to come by as well, the BC Apollo is a SOLID choice.
Second that Apollo, it’s very quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
Like you, responsive has really spoke to me. The bug but me around January 20th, and I have hardly touched any unresponsives since then. I spent the month February focused on learning 0A tricks, and finding the proper hardware. If the ones I have picked up the last month, here are some favorites.
- Get a Duncan Wheel off eBay or something, an old one. 1994 or earlier. These two are from the 80s. Collectible but extremely capable.
- Get a Tom Kuhn No Jive. The are worth the hype. If you are into collecting, this will definitely be fun for you as well as their are many collectable No Jives.

There is a person on the boards named Ardeus. He makes 3d printed fixed axle throws. They will be a cheat code for getting good at 0A, they make the tricks far easier to learn. Search the forum for Ardeus.

Look up Davidson Lathe Craft. He is a master woodworker that makes amazing wooden yoyos for cheap, $35-45, and they are gorgeous. His newer designs are very 0A friendly, and he has been open to custom work lately. Ask for a Beeyo or a DeathMoth with a tight two dime gap, and thank me later. I haven’t been able to put them down.
I can now do the zipper stall! Thanks to @Yodaddyo the alternating finger tip in your YT tutorial; that really seemed to help this click for me.
Could anyone give me some information on my No Jive?
I’d like to know if it’s a TK or BC No Jive, and the name of the design.
Thanks!
dunno about the yoyo history part but the design looks like a mandala
One of my favorite designs
It’s trash. Send it to me so I can properly dispose of it for you
I question Seth’s sincerity. To be safe send it to me and I’ll check it out and determine the proper disposal method. Don’t trust Seth to do this for you.
