Spin top learning curve (it’s not a curve)

I’m not Kevin lol but here’s a sewing machine for those who may not know what it looks like. It’s a regen that could theoretically go on “forever”. Kevin doing 27 is amazing, and hopefully you can see how gigantic the Sara is in this video to appreciate the effort that it would take.

That’s some smooth spin top playing there sir, I like that under the leg return at the end. I did 54 regens today, finally getting a feel for keeping the top in the ‘zone of control’ and clearing the string out of the way, then recovering it so I can grab the tip again.
It’s great that you are posting your progress, I believe tops are the best kept secret on the yo-yo forum🤣. Keep inspiring folks.

Speaking of learning stuff…. Don’t forget to play with the angles at which you throw. I’m experimenting with throwing it into horizontals so I lasso right into trapeze mounts.

Also working on getting these trapeze transfers down to lead into a big circular whip.

Creating a freestyle is hard. I’m not creative. So I’m working on some big cool looking tricks that work well together. I still want to throw a whip and barrel rolls in here. The whip would fit well between the drum beats and that last lasso before the under the leg catch. Any ideas, feel free to recommend.

You would need to talk to the guys on the itopspin forum if you want ideas about points. If you just want to look good and freestyle for fun, I would suggest more banger tricks and less regen stuff. Regens are hard to learn, fun to do and boring to watch. Maybe start with a left hand catch and do a long wire walker to your throw hand while you have excess spin.
You can find really cool tricks in this channel, and use regens to connect tricks.

Chidotrompo in instagram show lots of really cool combos that look fun.

I just need a 6 element combo as a freestyle to get the next patch. I have the 8,16, and 24 patch. Now I want that freestyle patch lol

Oh, then totally grab some catchy bangers and connect them with the regens. Maybe do a corkscrew trick, if you want bonus points, end with stairway to heaven.

I wonder if this step through counts as an element? They don’t all need to be 7 pointers. Just a click is good enough

I would think so but you would have to get the final word on that from ta0.

It’sa solid maybe based on what comes next. It clicks if it logically leads into a trick.
How’s this for a little pizzazz? I learned it on Fernando’s YouTube channel you posted.

That had a super nice flow to it and it was unexpected.

Vid attempt, thanks @TryCatchThrow for the link instructions. I was hoping you could download directly as I don’t hardly ever post stuff on other sites.

Learning this Half moon trick from Fernando’s videos. Trying to get consistent with it. It’s a HARD trick, I think.

It is sure hard for me to learn, I have got to about the point here you are, usually I don’t have any follow through after one rotation, it is good if I can just gut it back to my hand. It seems like the Mexican players use that all the time for a quick regen, but it’s hard for me to see where the tip is pointed throughout the rotation and how to keep the orbits going.
Man I wish I could practice inside like you do

Today I am thankful for @kevinm for sending me this Chido Trompo viper.. I can now throw this La Media Luna in between tricks. It does add or maintain spin, so that’s cool!

Outstanding! I am still working on that :joy:

That was really nice.

This trick is similar, but I am having a bit more success with it. Still lots of work to do, but at least it feels possible . I am hoping the circular travel and the handling of the top at the end of the trick will be close to how the other tricks feel and I will be able to build on it. The tutorials from Fernando have been invaluable to me.
