Scratches on new A grade 888. Should I ask for a refund?

I think I will avoid YYF in the future…

Spingear is awesome for the record. Japanese to English translation does come off a bit harsh at times and they probably got them from YYF and never even opened the box, which is why you got the response you got.

Major update!!

I will make another post about this in the future when the yoyo actually arrives, but for now…

I contacted YYF Ben directly through their whatsapp. After briefly explaining to him the issue, without any further questions asked, he immediately offered to send me a new Legendary 888. No returns needed, no nothing. Completely free of charge. I know… I can’t believe it myself, but he’s already packaged the yoyo and has probably shipped it by now.

For the record, YYF was never on the hook for the scratched yoyo. These things happen (as it turns out). It was Spingear that sold me a scratched yoyo whilst falsely advertising it as not scratched.

Yet YYF decided to take matters into their own hands and make right what was never their wrong to begin with. If that is not the greatest example of customer service, I do not know what is.

YYF may have spent extra dough to get me a new yoyo on the house, but they sure have just gained a loyal fan and customer. I say that proudly. If a company is willing to go that far above and beyond for their product, that attitude alone makes me want to purchase from them.

What a journey it’s been… For now all I can say is I’m sincerely grateful to all of you in the forums for giving much needed advice as well as YYF Ben for stepping up.

No, for titanium anodized rims this is totally normal, sorry.

Well it looks like now you can actually use one for its intended purpose… you know… yoyoing

Even if you don’t care about the damage personally it impacts resale value which is reason enough to be upset.

Not if they’re selling it without a disclaimer.

Yoyo factory yo-yos lose value like a boat. Heck amayzing devalued almost the entire yyf lineup this month to make way for the shutter elite

I remember you mentioning that regarding the Big Deal doing that to the Flea prices on the secondary market. Is it a matter of them dropping prices so aggressively and flooding the market or is it more of the their product in general?

Before the Amazing sale I had only played a Replay Pro and had never even owned any of their releases. I’m new to the secondary market or yoyos as collectibles worth money, though I’m not treating mine as such.

I mean if they’re selling b grades for $60 I really wouldn’t be happy getting what should have been a b grade for $150 lol.

They also sell open box and dead stock for half.

Also generally yyf lose value quick because they are pumped out so heavily vs yo-yos from boutique that are in small batches.

The seemingly quick rotation of the different lines makes me wonder if they’ll have demand from nostalgia in the far future. Maybe mass production inhibits that though.

I don’t personally buy yo-yos to hold a value and just enjoy collecting cool stuff but as a buyer on the secondary market I definitely see and feel the differences

If anything this is insult to injury

Sorry you had to go through a similar experience.

Personally, I’ve only owned about 3 models from YYF and they were all flawed straight out of the box.
I eventually gave up on this company, they are quite notorious for having a very bad quality check (if not the worst).

Final Update. I got banned by YYF Ben

So, when I wrote the initial post here, I also made a very similar post on Reddit and Facebook. They were all regarding what I should do about the scratched yoyo from Spingear as I had no clue how to handle it. It’s been over 10 years since I left the hobby, and even back then I wasn’t familiar with what to do in this scenario. So please do excuse the “repeat post” in different corners of the internet. I was grasping at straws.

Anyways, for some reason, the shipping kept getting delayed so I asked YYF Ben directly on what was happening. He said he cancelled the shipping because of “my post on Facebook.”

I had no idea what he was talking about as I made all 3 posts on reddit, YYE and FB respectively weeks before. All the posts I made were far before I even thought about sending YYF Ben a message.

So I check FB and it’s a shitshow. Apparently the mods of that group decided to upload my post on the 28th, when the original upload date was over a week previous!! And now Ben thinks that I “stabbed him in the back” by making a hate post while the package was literally being delivered to my doorstep.

So he cancelled the package and blocked me on both FB and whatsapp.

At this point, I don’t even care about getting the yoyo. The truth has to get out.

Although I still appreciate YYF Ben for offering to send the yoyo out, he just blocked me without even seeing the evidence on what actually happened. I don’t blame him, he’s busy and probably very upset still on what happened. Or perhaps he thinks for some reason I actually did make another post about it 2 days ago when the matter was clearly already settled.

He probably will never read this or believe it. But that’s the truth.

That’s all for now. The entire ordeal on facebook with YYF Ben “framing me” for stabbing him in the back was extremely stressful and it seems that most of that group now thinks I’m some scammer/asshole for doing that.

I’m really trying not to laugh but this is what you get for buying factory throws.
Ben did you wrong??? Say it ain’t so.
Kids today.
If I paid 150 for a throw and it came pre scratched I’d be pissed. And don’t tell me that they just come way. Completely unacceptable.
Also In before the lock.

Not the first time this has happened, not the last time either if I had to guess

I only buy YYF during the may sale now because the difference between the b and a grades is often indistinguishable

Did you send hi a picture of this damage? That is not from manufacturing.

The FB post definitely had a Déjà Vu feel to it as it posted so many days later. YYF Ben banned himself from here a year ago after the Evan debacle which his comments really elevated and skewed that whole controversy. I also kind of lean away from YYF these days as they seem to always have so many issues.
