I bought a new A grade Legendary 888. Before purchasing the retailer confirmed it would be A grade and “without scratches”. However, upon receiving it, I can see multiple small scratches and now I’m starting to think this might not qualify as an A grade yoyo, especially at this price point (150 USD).
What are your thoughts on it? Does this qualify as an A grade yoyo for 150? Should I ask for a refund?
Thanks for the info! So could you call this an A grade throw? I mean, some of the scratches look like someone maybe even took it out for a few spins, bumped it a few times. I’m just not too happy because the retailer specified there would be no scratches and it also cost an eye watering 150
I’ve been summoned! Yes it’s common on the legendary 888. Idk what was with the qc on it, but scratches and dings were common enough around the Ti rim. Mine had dings along the seam where the Ti met the body. Never affected play or anything, just wasn’t great qc.
Ah… I wish I’d known that before splurging on it. Tbh, I bought it for “trophy” purposes (I know, shameful… /s), so the aesthetics are more important in this case. Anyways, I really appreciate the info!
I’ve no clue as I haven’t even strung it up yet. Long story short, I’m unable to test it out myself as I’m not currently with the yoyo. My brother recieved it for me as I’m out of the country and took some photos (and unfortunately he doesn’t know how to throw). So for now all I’ve got to go off of are the scratches. And he unboxed it on a video call with me so no he didn’t scratch it himself
JSERR says it’s just aesthetic and the yoyo spins fine so I’m hoping that’s the case, but it’ll be at least 2 months till I can find out for myself.

Mine has pretty prominent white rings in the ano where the rims meet the aluminum. I got it for fairly cheap on the BST though so I can’t complain, but the quality is definitely disappointing for what these retail for.
Thank you! I’m pleasantly surprised at how active and helpful everyone has been. I really appreciate all of your takes.
As for the retailer, it’s spingear.jp and they in fact clearly stated in an email inquiry that it was A grade and without scratches before I purchased it. Since it’s pretty clear this isn’t A grade, I’m just hoping this gets resolved quickly so I can get it off my mind.
I have only returned one yoyo if my memory serves. It was purchased here at YYE. Somehow the yoyo was out of round. I left a message at YYE and they replaced it pronto. They even sent me the replacement and I was able to return the defective yoyo to them in that shipping box.
I hope your experience goes well if you decide to return the yoyo.
Apparently, there is nothing wrong with the Yoyo as Spingear sees it. It’s A grade in their eyes and they “will not do anything”. And they also don’t want me to send them any more emails to them either, which is insult to injury, saying “for further inquiries directly contact YYF”
I bought a legendary 888 a year ago from yyf directly and it came with marked up rims. This is just how they are. I emailed yyf about it at the time and got a similar answer it’s how they come out in manufacturing.
It doesn’t impact play and honestly I’m gonna beat it up more myself so I accepted that’s just how yyf does and lowered my expectations from them. Partly why I don’t buy new full price yyf anymore only on sale or marked b grades but it is what it is. Yyf is pretty dismissive if the yoyo is playable and at the standard they set for that run. This just seems to be the standard. Not great but ohh well it’s still a fun player.
Ah… I see… I think I’ve realized now, how it’s like with certain yoyos from YYF (like this one for example). Thank you so much for sending the photos too. I actually feel much better now about the condition of my throw.
