Popular yo-yo that you just couldn't get into?

I can understand all that. Check out some of the Basecamp yoyos if you get the chance. They have a different feel than a lot of the stock YYF yoyos (different marketing too  ). August should have a new round of Basecamp that should be pretty fun :+1:

I concur with Smileypants (although I do not enjoy calling another man Smileypants… Almost as bad as Delicious  ) and Code. I wanted the QV, because well, newer is better, right? I ended up with an OG, and man is it a fun throw regardless of your style. I’d like to try a QV just to compare them hand in hand, but they’re rarely available. The OG Kuntosh, with spikes… Classic.

These guys own YYF. Don’t let “factory” in the name sway you. These guys eat live and breath yoyoing. And have for a very long time.

yoyofactory is a great brand. They offer a wide variety of product to pretty much every level of player. They do more for yoyoing than any other brand IMO. So many different designs, and they’ve been making yoyos for so many years. Why would people call yyfs souless?

What do other boutique brands do better in terms of marketing where yyf falls short to you? Genuinely curious

IMO a lot of YYF throws definitely have a certain common feel to them. Not meant as a criticism necessarily—I’m actually quite fond of YYF—but I can see if something of that YYF formula isn’t working for someone how the rest of the line might feel rather unappealing.

Popular throws I can’t get into:
Hummingbird
Ceasefire
Marco
Shutter Wide Angle
‘18 Banshee (neither the 6061 nor the AL7)
Big Boi 430

I feel like one day I’ll pick up the Banshees and totally see what the hype is about but right know I just don’t.

Soulless, I both agree and disagree.
Agree: Ever heard the term “bubblegum music” lots of there stuff seems like that to me
Disagree: They do a helluva lot for the yo-yo world, have a huge range of products as mentioned. And from what I understand are genuinely good dudes (never met Ben)
My sample size is small in comparison to what they’ve produced, probably only owned like 12 YYF, never thrown a Shutter or 888
Love how the Confusion GT has the :honeybee: colors and looks like the Cold Fusion.
Note: Anyone wanna trade a shutter or Confusion GT? Holla at me!

I liked the shape of the Dang 2 but it has a terrible finish in my opinion. Ruins it for me.

The new yyf stuff is nuts

The blade and bind from what ive heard are really good

Can confirm. They’re both excellent, especially the BiND. Wish the Blade had maybe a gram or two more on it but that’s being nitpicky.

I feel the yyf company has a sort of corporate feel compared to other companies. (One drop, CLYW, yyfriends, rain city, etc.) it’s like comparing a chili’s, or outback to a small mom and pop joint. The larger corporate companies make good product, sometimes better than the mom and pop places. That being said, the “soul” is a feeling, mostly due to marketing and branding. Companies like Yyf, Duncan, and Yomega are big and always make a relatively good product, but the smaller companies have that charm of being a smaller/ less established name and product that is sooo appealing even though the product might be less consistently good. In other words they have “soul”

Honestly there are multiple CLYW throws that fit this category for me, throws that are sluggish and not particularly stable and in general don’t perform well.

That said, I think the Arctic Circle 2 is one of the best yo-yos ever made.

For me it’s the CLYW wildfire. This surprises me since I typically love V-ish performance oriented bimetals. Maybe I need to give it more time, I didn’t care much for the artemis until I spent quite a bit of time with it and now I love it.

CLYW has been the most hit/miss for me, about 50/50 out of the 6 I own. :man_shrugging:

I agree. Since I started getting back into the game a lot of the new clyws I can’t get behind. I feel like they fell off hard once they moved to China. The peak 2 is a nice player though

Can you go into a little more detail? Was considering picking one up at some point.

I try to keep this in mind also, I didn’t like the Duncan Strix, or the Origami at first, after a very long time on the shelf I picked them both up again and I actually really like both now. :man_shrugging:
