I give new yoyos one day of play with the stock pads then it’s strait to the tube of grey.

Just siliconed my Libero, it literally stopped to bind, I had also to clean my bearings that literally release half of the pads in the cleaning solution lmao my girlfriend seen me doing maintenance and told me “I didnt seen you in ages doing that” which made me feel guilty lmao I was seriously ages without do maintenance, life is too short to do it and tricks are too many. I took the moment to silicone and clean also other yoyos so I have all fresh again

Order of business for today

I’m usually a thin strings or nylon guy, mainly cos of how it interacts with the response. So I’m buzzing to try out the Ultra Grey and get the thiccccc strings back in my life.

@Albertino with the genius heads up

I’ve been wondering for a while how the Confusion would play with a touch of grey!
We shall see tomorrow.

I tried it with a 3mm narrow dry A bearing and it was unresponsive. My grey was recessed slightly. However, with a standard lubed 4mm A bearing the response was out of this world. The biggest problem with the pads that come on it is that they are so thick they stick out into the gap. If you get the thin white pads it becomes completely unresponsive. So this is a nice middle ground. You gain back some room in the gap but still keep a very nice response.:+1:

Siliconing like a madman yesterday night, this is the Atmos - Ekta, the original pads weren’t absolutely my cup of tea, seriously too grabby and snaggy, so I provided some Permatex goodness to the yoyo, can’t wait to use it today!
Also can I say how insane is the amount on the tube? I have it from more than a year, I siliconed probably more than 60 yoyos and there is still some for probably other 7, such a good value

Update

I’ve got these 5 throws dialled in perfectly now, some of them needed redoing. A few tweaks got em right.

I’m still using poly/nylon 5050 mix or nylons.
Regular thickness.

I’ve noticed heavier throws do not need much of a recess to be in the sweet spot for binds. I think the increased momentum of heavier throws needs more friction.

  • i like feeling my throws rev a little bit if i feed a small loop / do any slack binds. That’s the sweet spot for me

ITS NOT SLIPPING, ITS REVVING

Permatex works PERRRRRRF for any larger pads. I feel like it really shines there. Snow tires, 21mm OD, trash compared to the ultra gray.
You can still make it grippy if you lay it thick, and all snags will practically disappear.

I also noticed any yoyos that had a slight vibe are now smooth as glassssssss. I don’t kno what the issue was with my pads before, some of them were practically new before I took them out.
There were some nail vibe and some VIBE vibe. But now every single throw is dead smooth.
(Like freaky smooth, when YYF first dropped the ‘07 888 smooth)

Hey Cay, have a look at the “what did you get in the mail” post, I wrote quite a bit about it after 4 hours of playing, anyway after a day and more of playing and siliconed, I think this is my new favourite yoyo ever, I dont know how it is possible to make something better than this

I was going to replace the stock response in my Apathy today since it’s been very snaggy ever since I got it (and with those sharp edges, that’s dangerous lol) but I realised it was just a dud bearing causing the issues.

But since I was all ready to silicone a yo-yo so I decided to swap out my shutter’s response instead.

Round 2!

Did yall know that ultra grey can expire? I did them up 2 days ago and this morning it was still tacky and gooey. Looked it up and it seems like the stuff has about a year shelf life. I tossed the one that never cured and went and snagged a new tube. I noticed the texture was a little different from the old to the new, so I am pretty sure it just went bad.

2 hour edit: the small blobs of waste are already starting to feel dry to the touch, fresh permatex did it!

That’s weird, I’ve had a tube open for approaching 2 years almost and it’s still fine. I just used some a couple days ago and it’s just as good as the day I got it.

Maybe I got newer stock and you got older stock? Maybe something about humidity/temperatures in our environments. I just store mine in a small bag under my desk.

This yoyo was just siliconed last week, and it’s been playing great.

Im sure it was some kind of freak thing like old stock. I saw people on automotive forums having the same problem where it wouldn’t cure and the consensus there was typically “expired, can’t fix it just get a new tube”

You can get your silicone to last longer if you store it in your fridge thanks to the dehumidifier in the fridge.
