To anyone on the fence about this, I just tried it and I am absolutely sold.
Tight binds, no snags even with my thickest strings. I was really not sure about it - but idk if I can go back lol.
It is rather messy as some have said - only advice I have that I will use next time is to use a syringe to have more “control” when filling the groove.
The bottle and attachment were somewhat hard for me to do without getting to everywhere.
That being said - give it a try it’s honestly great. And thanks to @BindWithMe@Slestak75 for helping me with all the questions!!!
Oh yeah I got a syringe to do it with and it not only makes less of a mess, it’s also easier. I’m never going back to pads or even flowable. It’s so good.
I’m surprised how good it is. @BindWithMe was talking about how much better it makes the yo-yos feel. I took my worst one and it literally plays better.
It is really the best return system ever, I advice everyone to use the siringe in this way you do not waste much product and is easier to apply.
In all those months using it if I have to find only one con is that it get consumed quite fast, if you are someone like me that play a lot with the same yoyo and for many hours a day in around a month and a half the silicone need to be replaced, I arrived at a point where it was so consumed that I was able to see the metal of the yoyo instead of the pad lmao.
Other than that have to say that even when heavily consumed this pads still works well you can still bind and play with no problems which is insane, eventually you arrive to a point where it does really need replacement.
At the moment the only pads that are similar to this silicone (but still much more grabby) are some pads hardness 50 that I get from China, them are super hard but still not “free” as our silicone.
I wish the Motorsil D was still an available option because it was like the ultra grey but easier to apply and lasted ageeees!
The pads on my Peak2 was looking a little sus and felt like it was getting in the way due to string friction.
Ripped them out - found snow tires have a really deep recess.
This time I decided to join the Ultra Grey silicone cult. Applying it was a little messier than flowable. Why do they even give you the nozzle when the grey silicone just gets stuck in there.
Anyways after 24 hrs, and picking it up to play , feeling was nice non grippy binds. With flowable silicone and no recess, it took a few days to wear them down to something like this.
First time siliconing anything in about 4 years. I swear by YYF natural pads once I replace the originals on a yoyo since they last forever but I hated how grippy the Duncan pads were on the FH One AL and on the regular FH One I just want it as unresponsive as humanly possible for a thin gap A bearing yoyo and you guys make the grey stuff sound great. AL is flat, plastic is recessed. Hard to tell from the picture but I did a terrible job on one side of the plastic. The sticker lip made wiping away the excess a huge pain.
Welcome! Next time you can leave the excess around the edge and just peel it off after it cures. Way easier than trying to swipe it away whil e it’s wet
I just mean the excess from when I initially created the recess with the credit card. The sticker lip served as like a dam so that it didn’t spread out like normal so even when it dried it was hard to wipe/pick from the lip. Kinda hard to describe. After drying, the AL took about 30 seconds and the plastic took like 5 minutes to clean
It’s been about 10 hours and seems very dry but I’m trying to be patient and wait at least 12-16
Plastic plays a bit less grippy and slacks/suicides open better than they did than when I was running it with just 1 pad. For this yoyo, a clear improvement. On an A bearing yoyo, any improvement is a big win.
For the AL, during play, the yoyo seems to take layers of string slightly better, but some binds seems to be very grabby. Hard to describe and weird, may need more break in time. Definitely should have recessed this one too, debating whether to play it more or redo it.
Ultragrey can be very grabby at first. Definitely play it more and see if it breaks in because having it be perfect right after application could mean it quickly becomes slippy.
This one played good with stock pads, it just made the clear yoyo look ugly with the bright pads showing through it.
Played the AL long enough to know that I need to redo it with a slight recess. Played the plastic long enough to say that the recessed grey is exactly what it needed to play PERFECT unresponsive with a CT bearing. Honestly didn’t think a plastic FH One could play this good without modding.
My most recent addition to the Grey clan is my Motion Parallel. I always felt like the stock pads were a bit more slippy than I like and since they were custom size I just went ahead applied the grey.
It now hits just the way I like it. I just love how easy it is to “tune” your application to your liking no matter what you’re using it on. Even responsive yo-yos get fantastic results.
