Doesnt take much space either. I’m gonna put mine in there from now on too lol.
My wife had me remove the silicone from the fridge but we have a small fridge in the garage and it lives in their till she finds it and rolls her eyes so hard I feel it from access town while in the office.
Is it still binding?
With a bit of extra finesse it was yah
Ok, I know these have clear flowable in them but I wanted to share something I’ve recently found that has been a game changer for tuning silicone response.
One of my least favorite things about using flowable, either with ultragrey or clear, was setting consistently deep recesses with the corner of a credit card. The angle of the card and how steep you hold it affect the recess and it was always very difficult to tune.
I looked into caulk removal tools and found these steel ball tools. They come in different sizes which allow me to use a smaller ball for a deeper recess, or a bigger ball for a shallower recess. Theres also enough sizes to do 19mm and 21mm response grooves. The pack I found has 4 different sticks with different sizes, and was $5 on amazon.
Essentially once you get rid of the excess with a card, you run the ball through the groove a few times (i usually will circle a bunch, then clean, then circle again 3-4 times). The end result is perfectly consistent recesses across all your yoyos, every time.
Brilliant!
For the first time today…I tossed an uncured Grey…
Gave it over 24 hours. Felt fine, cleaned up fine.
Went to throw it…string full of Grey. Gotta clean it out and retry.
That’s wild, I’ve never had it take more than 4 hours to be playable, I’ve had them cure enough to play within 2 hours.
It seems crazy. Maybe it’s too humid or something.
Hey everyone, I wanted to let everyone know about a new discovery made by @fradiger recently.
We all love Permatex Ultra Grey because of its hardness of 45 which makes it durable and less responsive.
However, there is an even harder silicone with the shore hardness value of 67! This is much more than even Motorsil Reds which have 50 hardness.
I had to try it out and yesterday I applied it to one of my yoyos. Testing it out today, I can immediately tell it’s much harder than ultra grey. It’s noticeably stiffer and looks much more durable.
Binds wise, I think it is only ever so slightly slippier than Ultra Greys. However, because of this, I can apply the silicone flush instead of recessed like I do with Ultra Greys. This makes it last even longer and honestly I personally like the extra slippiness even more cause I use very long string.
I recommend yall to test it out! Permatex® Gear Oil RTV Gasket Maker, 3 OZ - Permatex
I siliconed all my yoyos after testing it out.
Absolute Kings, please let us know how long it last this one compared than the ultra grey, can be a great discover, also I have to buy some new silicone asap, just finished the tube I have.
For me the slippiest the better
Thanks @fradiger and @IoSonoFormaggio
who knew browsing the official permatex website and reading the TDS for fun was a good idea
I know Joo said on discord that it was taking much longer to smooth out after applying it and that’s a sign that it should be more durable than ultra grey. We will see though! I think I might head to the auto store to buy some today bc Hades eats through response so so fast and I prefer very slippy response also hah!
I joined the club for the Permatex, although I ended up using the grey version of The Right Stuff 34328. Was easy to work with, definitely recommend.
I made it flush with the groove, but I noticed my old pads were not flush with the groove instead recessed a couple of mm. Is there any reason to have your pads recessed?
Yeah it will make the yoyo less responsive. Easy to get the exact kind of response desired between the different hardnesses of silicone out there plus recessing.
I just ordered some! Of course, I just went through and siliconed a bunch of yoyos last weekend so the timing isn’t great. But there were a couple that I forgot to do so I guess it will make for a good test run when I fix them up.
