Pebble Smartwatch Return

Hey all,

Anyone else excited for the return of pebble smartwatches?

My daily driver has the old CLYW & OD yoyo logos from a decade ago lol.
I managed to side load the app using the Rebble guide https://rebble.io/

LET’S. GO.

I had a Pebble 2, and was SO bummed when it died. I am so ready for another.

The casing on my pebble 2 totally wore down with the buttons too! Thankfully I have my pebble steel and this thing is an absolute TANK

I vaguely remember them so looking into them now. I see they had e-ink screens? Is that right? That seems rather fragile. Would love to hear from folks who had them.

I’ve had this one since about 2015 and it’s still going strong :sunglasses:

There are also plenty of tutorials on how to open them up and reattach the screen ribbon or replace the batters. These are not perfect but it’s the closest to a perfected design I have found and nothing even comes close

YES! I almost squeed in excitement when I saw the announcement on the rebble page and from Eric Migicovsky’s post. It so freaking awesome. I have the OG pebble and still wear it to this day thanks to the rebble community. I do need to get a new band though. It finally started cracking on me. The news is so exciting and I can’t wait to see what’s to come of it since the source code is out there now and they are working on new designs.

I did see an unfortunate announcement from Eric though, he said there’s currently not any plans for a color e-ink display. Which is a super bummer. I love the pebble time display. Hopefully the new one will be like the Pebble 2 design wise with a newer aesthetic. Either way I’m definitely going to have to get one!

I am also a little bummed by no color screen in the works, but maybe it’s the optimist in me that’s whispering that it’ll come down the line if the reboot is successful enough. The B&W screen fits the minimalist vibe and isn’t out of place IMO, it’s just getting back to pebble basics to start off with.

Totally agree! It’d going to be pretty nice either way. E-Ink displays have gotten more responsive and have higher ppi than when the pebble first came out so it’s going to look super crisp and even more efficient. Definitely going to be nice and refreshing!

Things are already moving forward full steam ahead!

Dev boards are working and they’ve compiled the OS already. Looks like the new watch is going to based off of the nRF52840 chipset.

Some info based off the info sheet on the chip

The nRF52840 is built around the 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M4 CPU with floating point unit running at 64 MHz. It has NFC-A Tag for use in simplified pairing and payment solutions. The ARM TrustZone® CryptoCell cryptographic unit is included on-chip and brings an extensive range of cryptographic options that execute highly efficiently independent of the CPU. It has numerous digital peripherals and interfaces such as high speed SPI and QSPI for interfacing to external flash and displays, PDM and I2S for digital microphones and audio, and a full speed USB device for data transfer and power supply for battery recharging.

Eric is also scheduling a trip to Shenzhen next week to talk to suppliers / manufacturers!

Yeah this is exciting.

You just made my day! I was an original backer, never found anything that could fill the void. Stupidly excited for this
