This was my next step for a modern fixie and I’m glad you have experience. I tried to use the outer race but I didn’t realize that the bearing was held at the center. I was surprised by the grinding, vibe inducing, howl that followed my first test throw.

Would you say it’s similar to a steal axle in response? Do you use poly or cotton string?

stable, middling size, grinds well, smooth, durable thanks to long axle

and it looks cool

string wise, idk alphaline probs

and maybe throw in a nsk DS bearing so people can stop telling me how flat bearing suck

Yes, nice smooth steel axle play! I def recommend poly, cotton will grab the steel more and cause it to die quickly. Poly has the perfect ratio of slip and grip to give good spins and reliable response. I recommend using a thinner string to get a nice straight throw. I use Twisted Stringz regs. They also have a nice tight wind.

I recommend when breaking in the string to crank the torsion tight and then gradually loosen it as response gets too aggressive. Until you reach neutral torsion. Enjoy the journey! :call_me_hand:
