I will try and film my one minute when I get home from work if I don’t have time I will get it done tomorrow for sure. I have a half day of work. Can’t wait to see what you got Matty G.
I just wanted to start a little conspiracy theory here: I have this suspicious feeling that our wonderful and gracious contest host was simply holding back in his vid on page 1. I recently received a PM suggesting that he has been practising new ‘combos’. Named things that sound difficult. And cool. So I have this feeling he’s going to blow us all out of the water once this whole contest thing is ready. The old ‘Lull the opponent into a false sense of security’ technique… (this last sentence should be read in an Inspector Clouseau accent).
I dont think you really know Greg he wouldn’t do that, he posted that video saying he does have some new and better stuff ready but nothing that much better… After all, he has had time to improve a bit anyways.l
Haha! Joe’s only taking the mick out of me. To the stealthy agent, I’ve posted anything new I’ve learned to the “I finally landed it!” thread if anyone wants to do the research.
What I’ve really done is improve my throw for longer combos, and find more seamless ways to string them together. I have to admit, my final video should be significantly better than the one I posted…at least in my opinion! The original unpublished and unheralded battle vs. yooldman (which inspired this whole thing) had already lit a fire under my ___ and I started getting a lot better pretty quickly! Definitely the one I posted was as good as I could do for the time, though!
Had to drop Skin the Gerbil… There’s something I’m doing wrong with that trick (or maybe it’s the medium-thick string I use) that just kills my spin.
I know, right? Remind me to NEVER make such a long entry period again. 1 week is probably fine. 2 is plenty. A month? Only stuck to that because yooldman and I were so easy-going about the whole thing when it was the two of us and it seemed only fair that if I was inviting others to join, they should have the same opportunity to film and practice!
The ideal scenario is to upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo, but with a “private” or “unlisted” setting. Then email or PM me the link to it.
Before the voting thread goes live, all videos must be made “unlisted” or “public” (it’s up to you if you want YouTube to be able to find it and recommend it or not; unlisted just means the link is publicly viewable by people who have it).
If you do not have YouTube, Vimeo, or similar video hosting service, you can send me the files (drop me a PM for the details) and I will upload it to my own YouTube account and set it to “unlisted”.
Just recorded the wretched thing only to find bits of it are off camera. Might be the one you get anyway cause I have so little time to throw during daylight hours. Either that or I have to find a bank of lights! Blast.
I hear you. I got one good take of mine in daylight hours. Now I actually have a free moment and it’s raining out. Blah. Luckily my indoors videos seem to turn out OK despite the not-scenic backdrop. Might have to try another take indoors just for lack of options.
I have a pair of work lights that help out for indoors stuff. They sure are HOT though! Also, I need to set a custom white balance when using them or everything turns out orange.
Shoot up and away from you to use it as more ambient lighting. Be slightly in front of them and aim up/away behind you, often helps. If you have some very thin white paper, aim the lights AT them to diffuse them while aimed directly at you. It won’t help with the heat, but it will soften the light, which is your objective. Butcher paper is too heavy. If you don’t have paper, is very, very thing cloth, but it needs to be fairly even in thickness with no heavy spots and a bit of distance between the light and the fabric. If you have any frames to stretch the cloth over, it will make things easier, but then you have to hang it in front of the lights. Always something, right?
