MK1 and Spinworthy present - The RBC!

I got the orange… I love it! I have to respect this thing while breaking it in… it nearly broke my hand on a hard sleeper attempt.

I’m thinking about going all in on the diminishing returns and getting a full ceramic MR85.

If someone gets a b grade and responsive isn’t for them, hit me up. I don’t have enough to purchase one on yoyoexpert but I have $50 in PayPal for you right now.

If no bites, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed B grades are still available when I get paid next. I am hearing too many good things about this thing

And I just snagged a RBC in a trade, I’m in the club!

“…and it might just be the best shoot the moon yo-yo ever.”
That’s what made me have to buy it. And I have to say I agree.

I hope to get a red RBC sometime in the future once they are available again.

Still love my orange RBC.

Mine was supposed to come in yesterday but it’s been DELAYED until sometime this week :weary:

I have had my RBC for several weeks now. It has become my primary throw.

It is the most versatile, capable and PREDICTABLE yoyo I have.

I hope the red ones become available soon so I can get a backup.

Adventures in MR85 bearings!

The bearing that came with my RBC seems to have been bad. The first day it arrived, it played wonderfully, but the second day it would sometimes randomly go totally unresponsive without warning. This led to a couple unfortunate dings on my terrazzo floor.

I figured it was a bearing problem, so I bought a 10-pack of MR85-2RS bearings on Amazon and got to work testing out a bunch of different combinations of lube etc. The reason I chose the 2RS is because the rubber seals are easy to remove and put back on. Hopefully the following screed will be useful to someone.

The 2rs bearings come greased from the factory. For all bearings except the stock one, I deshielded them and soaked them in degreaser to remove all factory grease.

  • Stock 2rs: has some grease inside. Hyper responsive and disappointing spin times. Insane moon-shooter and snappiest stalls but not versatile or very fun. For a lot of tricks it’s just too eager to respond. For example, tape measures are hard, and a flyaway is borderline impossible.

  • Bone dry with no shields: Long sleeps and good response. Extremely loud, enough for my wife to complain.

  • One Drop V4M thin lube + shields: Even longer sleepers than dry! I don’t know if that is due to the lube, or inconsistencies in the bearings. 99% of the time response was good but I did have two instances where the yoyo went completely unresponsive. I’m a little gun shy about this since that’s how I got two big dings with the factory bearing.

  • Super Lube 52004 + shields: This is lightweight machine oil I had in my toolbox. It’s a little more viscous than the One Drop thin lube, but still way less viscous than thick lube. Worked great, with long spin times, totally consistent response, and fairly quiet. If you like your responsives to need a bit of a harder tug, this is a great option.

  • “Precision Oiler” pen + shields: Another random lightweight machine oil from my toolbox, but in a fun needle-looking pen format, probably about analogous to sewing machine oil. This was about the same as the Super Lube oil, but I think I like Super Lube better.

  • YoYoJam Thick lube + shields: quiet! About halfway between the stock greased 2rs bearing and thin lube. Response is snappy without being unforgiving. Sleepers are definitely shorter than thin lube but long enough to do all the string tricks I want to do. I can do 8-10 eli hops in a row for example. I think this is my endgame because of the quietness and utterly consistent response. I am digging this one.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Its weird that The bearings are going completely unresponsive on a few people. Its actually the overall setup that makes it really responsive, not so much the bearing. Weird. :man_shrugging:

I’ve been throwing more than a few RBCs for a while now, and never have any of them had unresponsive issues.

Yup, that’s exactly what mine did with the bearing it shipped with, and it would happen without warning. You’re expecting it to regen, and wham, straight into the floor. Or tug the string and it’s completely dead. Next throw it’s totally snappy again. It was bizarre. All good now with the above bearing experiments.

That is really odd. What string were you using, out of interest?

The string that came with the yoyo, and I was also able to replicate it with my usual goto Yo-yo String Lab Type X, and some generic bulk string too.

I can put the original bearing back in and send you some videos on Instagram if you’re curious

I’ll be frank, I’ve not read every post on this unresponsive bearing thing. Isn’t it a scenario where he can just thick lube the bearing? I’m assuming that’s not the answer for some reason as that would have been recommended already, just curious as to why.

Thank you again for making these. Mine should be here in a couple days.

Next thing Im hunting down is one of your bearing wooden throws. Not sure if you made many, but I had one and during a manic episode (I’m better now) a little kid saw my throwing, and thought it was awesome, so I gave it to her (I just give stuff of mine away when I’m manic because the concept of possessions seems silly in the moment.) So know there is a random 10 year old out there in Tennessee rocking out a wooden Spinworthy with a bearing, lol, hope that makes you smile as much as it makes me (I recall I had to loop the string around the bearing multiple times so it was tug responsive for the kid.)
