MK1 and Spinworthy present - The RBC!

Here is some old pics. The guts are from a onedrop Cabal is what I was told by whomever traded it to me. Any confirmation would be cool if anyone knows. Apologies for going off topic.

Back on topic, if the RBC is as cool as I think it is, prepare to see some metal responsives from other brands hitting the BST soon.

Part of the RBC’s design intent was to use a super small bearing not seen in any other yoyo designs, so you wouldn’t have to lube it and the response would be closer to that of a fixed axle. Needing to lube the bearing would defeat one of the design choices for why that unique bearing was chosen. As seen in the previous posts though I guess it is possible albeit difficult to deshield the stock bearing and lube it if for some reason your setup is causing it to not be as responsive as you want.

I found the response to take just a bit of tweaking to get your string choice right for where you want the response to be, and then once your string breaks in it’s just a consistently good snappy response.

It’s a heck of a lot easier to figure out on the RBC than trying to explain how to get wood to respond right haha.

About the stock bearing going unresponsive that TOTALLY happened to me. The response was perfect out of the box and then over the next few days of heavy play (it became my go-to as soon as I got it I just can’t put this thing down) it slowly lost response. At first I was chalking it up to technique because it was only happening very infrequently. Then one day I went to change string to a different color (I had gotten white kitty fat in and wanted to change from the yellow kitty fat i was using). After re-stringing it was completely unresponsive. I was totally perplexed.

So I took apart the yoyo and examined the bearing and response and couldn’t see anything off - re-assembled and switched back to the original string and it’s still not coming back with a tug. So I did what I normally do with responsives that are losing their snap I got out my yoyojam brain lube and put a few drops on the outside of the bearing and let it soak in (didn’t remove the shields for this). Re-assembled and my RBC is now back to perfection.

I do remember seeing that this runs perfect with a dry bearing and that’s not my experience. Mine did go completely unresponsive. But a couple of drops of YYJ brain lube and I’m back to absolute perfection.

Just wanted to share my experience since I see this becoming a point of discussion here. I don’t consider it a flaw, just a point of maintenance to be aware of. Still my very favorite throw right now and I’m still calling this the throw of 2021 even after my honeymoon period. This thing is SO AWESOME!

You paid it forward. Very nice.

That is a a beautiful throw. Maybe someday I will see one available?

I need to save this technique. My RBC is still perfect but just in case.

PS. I do have two replacement stock bears and two sets of pads.

Thank you for the info.

Also I live in a SUPER dry climate. Colorado in the winter is so dry your skin will crack. I could see the possibility of people in different climates having different experiences. It’s not outside belief that yoyo response systems could be that sensitive.

I agree with this theory. Climate is all over the place in South Texas. Things change fast and dramatically. I’ve not had any issues with the RBC response, but have had response systems of various throws get wacky due to weather changes.

And it came. Thoughts to come once I’ve had some time.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with lubing the RBC bearing if that’s what is needed. Sorry the unresponsive things seems to be happening to some.of you. :pensive:

This is fantastic upon the little time I’ve had with it. I was a little excited when I heard claims that it bests the Daytripper, but I can see where they are coming from. You just may have created the best metal responsive uo to this point if time.

And honestly, I have to lube the bearings on all of my responsives so if I have to drop some thick lube in this thing, I really so no issues and you’d have no need to apologize to anyone from my perspective.

My only question would be, when is the wooden and aluminum version coming out? I’d also be curious on if a titanium version would be doable

The RBC is the aluminum version. I’ll make some wooden ones to send in when I have the time.

I didn’t word it very good, half wood and half aluminum. Aluminum making up the inner portion, wood on the outside. No clue if it even makes sense or if the wood and aluminum could be attached to make a seemless hollow half.

EPIC

Makes a beautiful purple color when spinning.

Just ordered mine, never thought about our dry Colorado air affecting yoyo response, but I guess it makes sense. Temperature probably has something to do with it too, especially if the tolerances are tight. In either case, I’m super psyched to see how this thing compares to my Daytripper , weekender, respawns, alley cat, and wood fixies. 0A is quickly becoming my mainstay at this point

I want one!

Sorry if this was answered somewhere in this long thread, but I couldn’t find it on the site. What constitutes a B-grade?

Ano flaws. Often hard to detect.
