Manufactured by One Drop

I think it has to do with equipment. I saw a video tour of the OD workshop and they have some flat out crazy equipment.

Iā€™d go as far to say that OD could be the most important manufacturer today. Their own designs are fantastic, but what makes them so great is giving all of these small startups a real chance. I love having many choices and knowing that they are manufactured to the same quality standards as one of the top brands in the business. To me at least, knowing a new yoyo was made by OD is like having a stamp of quality. Makes it a little easier to drop $100+ on a new companyā€™s first attempt.

Of course it doesnā€™t hurt that these freshman offerings have been amazing. No doubt One Drop had a hand in the design as well. Iā€™ve bought several of these offerings: Hazmat, Nessie, Albatross, Victory, Chupacabra. Thatā€™s all I can think of right now. These have all been fantastic. This is a great way to make a first impression. Not to single out a single company, but GSquared is already showing they could be the next One Drop and/or CLYW. The Albatross feels very CLYW while the Nessie seems very One Drop.

Weā€™re getting two more machines soon. Expect some more awesome offerings.

From what I heard, even biggest manufacturers trusts One Drop in machining, that is reason why Barracuda is made in One Drop(from what I heard)

Hahaha

How does getting more machines equate to different yoyo offerings? Are the new machines capable of something that the old ones were not? Or, are you just referring to increased output?

The acquisition of additional machines is why OneDrop is in the business of outsourced manufacturing for other companies. The only way to pay for these machines is to use them. That is the real service that OneDrop is providing. They are investing to buy the machines to allow increased production. Essentially, OneDrop is investing in the future of yoyo manufacturing by assuming the capital investment risk for these small emerging yoyo companies.

And they have a shop dog

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

That dog is soo cute!

Iā€™m perfectly fine with things being manufactured by One Drop its when the yoyos they manufacture for other people take their concept. Thereā€™s been quite a few companies that have taken the side effect axle system into their design. I understand this really works with most people but too me its like, ā€œhey look at that new one dr-ā€ Iā€™m not saying they have to reinvent the butterfly but I get kinda annoyed when I see things like side effects and certain branded finishes or colorways not on their respective owners. Just my two cents.

I think it is so awesome that they do that!

Here is my take on the idea of other company throws manufactured by Onedrop:

There is a number of things here that needs to be realized or said which some of you have said before it seems.

One of the things is that it draws personal relationships with new upcoming and or older based companies with Onedrop. It draws on a mutual sense of respect between the customer (the company) and Onedrop (the manufacturer) This is a important situation as it could help for possible business plans in the future like possibility of collabs or a returning company doing business with Onedrop.

Another thing is the promise of Onedrops superior manufacturing abilities for other companies out there. Onedrop is unique, they are able to help up and coming companies break into the community. Besides what Onedrop does for the community this is but one example. It shows heart for the yoyo world and other companys. I believe the only other company that does this is Foxland precision as they make Ten yoyoā€™s throws (This is merely what I heard, not sure if its a fact).

The idea of side effectsā€¦Onedrop wants to see this happen to more throws out there. The idea behind SEā€™s is pure genius and people may gripe behind them but you cannot deny what SEā€™s bring to the community. The throws that other companys choose to have SEā€™s is specific to that company. If you have not noticed other companys are now wanting to have their own custom SE such as Onedrops Anti-yo effects or Eternal Throwā€™s custom side effect. The SE system is partially copyrighted from what I understand but anyone can use them in their design if they merely ask.

They merely only choose the Onedrop flow groove and ten ball based on their belief that its the best possible set up. Anti-yo chooses to use flowgroove but instead use Crucials bearings which is dope. All power to them.

But to say that ā€œHey look at the new one dropā€ā€¦its pretty ridiculous. Other companys do their designs slaving at their computers to figure out the Cad. Onedrop is merely the manufacturer. Sonny of Anti-yo has a great relationship with Onedrop and his next prototype has the new Anti-yo effects in them.

Giving companies the chance to shine. That is important for continued growth for this community.

This is fact 8)

Great job Z could not have been said better!!

Do you say the same thing when a yoyo comes out with a standard axle system? Under you logic, all yoyos with the standard tapped axle system are from the same company. Side Effects are an axle system (superior in our opinion) and it is awesome that companies are wanting to license them from us. It makes the whole system better because the parts are 100% interchangeable.

Whenever I see a yoyo with a ball bearing, Iā€™m like ah, manā€¦another Tom Kuhn.

Could have sworn i read something about the KLR being manufactured by One Drop, but i canā€™t find it now.

Iā€™ve heard virtually every argument beforeā€¦ and Iā€™m still amazed that the conversation keeps happeningā€¦ I think it resurrects every time someone ā€œdiscoversā€ that a throw was made thereā€¦

the basic logic is this, you want something done right, something done well, you go to someone who knows what they are doingā€¦

I have heard horror stories of people taking their yoyo designs to machine shops who do not understand yoyoā€™s - and having money wasted on prototypes - all the while having the machinest not knowing how to fix itā€¦

I think there are some who are under the false impression/assumption that One Drop is holding yoyo designs and selling them off to unsuspecting yoyo-wannabe-companiesā€¦ the designs that come through the door are their (the incoming designers) designsā€¦ if they happen to take advatage of the wealth of knowledge that OD can offer - it only makes the throw better - hopefully avoiding the pitfalls and mistakes that have already been learned from.

As to the SE debate - just because someone incorporates them it does not make it an OD throw (as both da5id and Z pointed out)ā€¦ if thatā€™s the case is the Burnside not a OD throw? Personally (and as many think) it is the superior axle system - how many people cry over stripped out axles? With SEā€™s you just swap them out, no harm no foulā€¦ no re-tapping and throwing your favorite throw out of wackā€¦

I love the simplicity and universal nature of the flow groove pads - but it doesnā€™t stop me from silicone-ing my throws sometimesā€¦ and not all throws that come from OD shop use themā€¦

If you think about it from a medical perspective - if Iā€™m in need of a specialist, Iā€™m going to the best I can possible getā€¦

I might also note: I have a bit more ease when I find out OD manufactured a throw - thereā€™s a security in quality controlā€¦

Well said
