Alrighty, here I go with this lol. Sorry if I ramble or donā€™t make sense ^^;

TLDR: Yo-yoed as a kid stopped for almost 15 years then picked it back up b/c of some very ironic coincidenses in which I donā€™t actually believe in lol.
Throwing: a responsive N11 as I have not yet learned to bind. I do know a handful of tricks lol.

Ello all~ Iā€™m a 28 year old single mom. Iā€™d started yo-yoing on my momā€™s old wooden auto-return yo-yo as a kid. Iā€™d spend hours just wellā€¦auto returning the damn thing lol (yay for ADHD and hyper-focusing on stuff we find comforting). It was around my teen years I found out about new yo-yoā€™s through a band fundraiser. Seeing those presenters do all those freakiing amazing tricks was sssooooo cool. Sadly I didnā€™t sell enough to earn one of thoes yo-yoā€™s and got ā€œstuckā€ with the speed cup set. This was early to mid 2000ā€™s so yeah. While speed cups kept my attention long enough that Iā€™d kinda forgotten how badly I wanted that yo-yo they were pretty pricy at the time, that and I was a little ā– ā– ā– ā–  teenager who didnā€™t know a single damn thing about using the internet wisely enough to go find out how to get one or really anything like that.

~many many years later~

This past Halloween my kiddo got one of those freaking GARBAGE 2cent yo-yoā€™s that they put in kidā€™s party bags. This thing broke in like 5 seconds of my kid playing with it. My best friend/roommate told my daughter that no we would no fix that p.o.s and would order her a Duncan (sorry if I mispelled that) beginner yo-yo. In my own head I imagened him ordering her the kind of yo-yo that I had started playing with as a kid auto-returning all that jazz. I thought to myself: oh thatā€™s pretty cool Iā€™ll teach her how to just well throw and catch sheā€™ll have a great time!!! That is NOT what he got her. He got her a plastic responsive one and himself two V3ā€™s.

Well one of those V3ā€™s became mine (I just gave it to one of my friends trying to get him into throwing lol) Now I have a N11 that I love playing with. I can do a few tricks but havenā€™t moved away from my responisive barring as of yet. Only because I havenā€™t wanted to dedicate a whole day to learing to bind just yet lol.

I grew up with a single mom who got me into all types of skill toys for me to occupy myself while she worked. Much respect, Welcome to the boards!

welcome to the forums!!

binding looks tough but itā€™s not nearly as hard as we make it out to be in our heads while learning it.
once you do though, itā€™s a whole new hobby. binding opens up the rest of the yoyo world to you.

good luck. keep at it. ask questions here, there is soooo much knowledge on these threads. donā€™t over think it, itā€™s never as hard as you think it will be.

enjoy the throw

The video was originally made for someone here that had a problem with front throws and an easy bind that is why there is a portion at the beginning about a basic throw.

I accidentally posted my commented half done so i decided to delete the comment lol, but it never actually goes away on yye. I was just going to talk about how funny the first minutes are when you think about how all of his post begin with some sort of rambling. Was a good video that i sat through the entire 8 mins even though Ive been throwing for 15 years and know how to bind.

Welcome!

There are dozens of us that play mostly responsive, so thereā€™s options that donā€™t strictly involve binding. You can learn fixed axle play (0A), looping (2A), or responsive freehand (responsive 5A) in addition to whatever 1A trick ladder youā€™re working down.

Welcome to the forums! There are lots of great videos for learning how to bind and once you get it itā€™ll become so natural that youā€™ll even want to bind on a responsive yoyo.

Hello all,

AkYo here, I already posted in General, yet I thought I should still introduce myself here since I am new to this forum. I am a late Gen X-er whom resides in South East Alaska in ancient village. In fact the name of my village is literally translated as the eternal village. I also grew up in the San Fransisco Bay Area. I started using yo-yoŹ¼s in the early 80Ź¼s as from a gift from my father. He taught me how to snap the yo-yo to get some speed and walk the dog and a couple other cool tricks. Which eventually lead me to a lifetime of seeing someone doing something that impressed me with a yo yo which in turn would make me rack my nerves until I succeeded and then put it away until the next challenge came. I am out of practice but not out of love for this wonderful toy.

I tried new styles of yo yoŹ¼s and as they are pretty amazing on the handling I must admit, they feel and look like car rims to me. I would love to get the mechanics of the new yo yoŹ¼s with the aesthetics and feel of a classic duncan wooden yo yo.

Thank You
