Introduce Yourself!

-The video explains how “this is not a bind”
-He then shows the “proper” way to bind, which is the exact same end position, just a different path.
-He then uses what he says isn’t a bind when he winds his throw.

It’s the simplest fs bind to learn. That’s all that matters. The video doesn’t even need sound.

Technically, if there was no sound, you would assume that lifting the string to bind is the easiest and the next would be what you work towards. If you can’t hear his disagreement with the beginner bind taught on yo-yo tricks videos, it would be a nice video. It is still a nice video for someone that has realized the concept of binding. She started by lifting and now she is working on the “proper” bind. And to our surprise, the first one actually is a bind; it just doesn’t look :sunglasses:

Maybe it’s just personal preference. I learned by lifting but once I learned this way I never went back as I found it slows things down. No harm in knowing both ways and just doing whatever feels best.

Good Morning!

I figured I would finally stop lurking after all this time and create an account to stop the “Sign In” pop up every 30 seconds.

Not much to say… love to throw, not the best, but not the worst. Have a collection, not the biggest, but not the smallest.

Call me a freak, but my favorite throw is the Dogma… not sure why. Maybe it’s the cuts on inside, maybe it’s because I like the upside down L.

I tend to be sarcastic, take everything I say as a joke, or don’t.

Anyway, thanks for having me here.

Welcome to the forums! I don’t see anything wrong with liking the Dogma, it might be an old yoyo, but it’s still pretty dang good! Hilarious disclaimer right there.

Hey everyone! My name is Nate, or Nat, idk which I prefer. I’m 22 years old and recently moved to Long Beach, CA from the East Bay area. I started throwing when I was about 14, didn’t progress much as I had no understanding of yoyo maintenance and was using the wrong throw, and dint have many learning resources at all. I recently got back into throwing as an impulse decision because I was bored while quarantining for a week. I picked up a Magicyoyo K2 Crystal and progressed very quickly. My current setup is a Magicyoyo N6 Magistrate, with the Monkeyfinger Tasmanian tornado bearing and the Monkeyfinger Vines thin extra long string (started with regular length and found that I felt restricted and ran out of string quickly, plus I like more flowy tricks vs fast tricks). I am currently working on Eli hops and seasick, and trying to step out of my little comfort zone of basic frontstyle speed combos. Next I want to work on more advanced binds and building a wide arsenal of tricks that I can use to create my own unique style of yoyoing. I hope to connect to other throwers around my age in Southern California as I have never had any friends who throw. I also feel that surrounding myself with others in the community will help me quickly improve. Hope everybody is having a great day

Welcome, lots of people in SoCal. DXL Crew has been around forever, and has meet ups in the LA area, instagram or facebook.

Welcome @notpostmalone

I wonder how if feels to grow up in the advanced yo-yo world. I grew up in a pre internet and pre unresponsive world.

I could only imagine. The internet is so useful, we have access to any and all info we need.

Welcome to the forums! Looks like you’ve started off great with some Magicyoyos. The Tasmanian Tornado bearing is a great choice for a bearing as well. You have great taste! Try out some laceration binds, like the ghost bind:

I think it’s easy to forget this when you’ve been throwing for a while, but having a good, stable power throw and learning to consistently hit the string when maneuvering the yoyo are both skills that take time to develop. Having an alternative way to “thread the string” that doesn’t require the yoyo to be in motion is easier to learn and more forgiving when someone is still trying to figure out how to do all the other basic things.

Hey guys. Andrew here.

Ive been hanging around reading everything. Im a 50 something year old who had a coca cola back in the day. I bought my daughter (9) a yoyo (Butterfly XT) 2 months ago on a whim, and then started to throw. And then I couldn’t stop. And still, I simply cannot stop. So wind forward 2 months, I now have a Replay Pro, A Silencer and also a Confusion. I have done the “First 50 tricks” and starting get onto some more. I am loving it, its so good for your hand eye coordination, it makes you think, you can do it ANYWHERE and …wait…am I an addict? So, I’m a bit slower than I was so I cant see me being great and things take some time to learn, probably struggled most with plastic whip and Eli Hops but you know, perseverance - although I think consistency is key so not working too fast, just going over and over and over the ones I learn.

And now my Daughter is getting inspired, taking her yoyo to school everyday and her friends are all getting theirs out and asking me to make strings. From little things big things grow and yoyos are cool again  But I must admit, I didn’t know so many strings were needed- I now own about 150  I can see a few more yoyos being added soon too.

Anyhoo! Thats me, Im the one reading all your awesome help and info. FANTASTIC forum. So nice, you guys truly rock. Back to throwing
