Hello, decided to make an account after lurking for months. Happy to have found a new hobby whose community is by in large positive and welcoming. Loved yoyos and tops (mostly beyblades) as a kid but never got further than walk the dog. Everytime I went to a dollar store I always looked for cheap yoyos in the toy section.

Realized in August of this year that I’m an adult and could just buy a yoyo online. I’ve thrown pretty much everyday since and have gravitated towards responsive yoyos, spent most of that time dedicated to 2a. As you can imagine, it’s a struggle, I need to take breaks so I switch it up with fixed axle play (broke my legend wing in half but snagged a Survivalist) and responsive 5A.

The main takeaway from my time throwing so far, excuse the hyperbole, is that if I can do it once I can do it infinitely. It’s the way that I’ve come to approach learning new tricks without getting discouraged and I’ve used it as a positive approach for some things in life as well. :v:t5:

Welcome to the forums! 2A players are a rare breed here, glad to know you’re working on 2A! It’s going to be a long grind, so just keep at it and you’ll be throwing loops without even thinking about it soon enough!

Well I was going to welcome you, but that Survivalist should have been MINE.

JK dude, welcome :upside_down_face::heart:

Hi I’m Leroy. My favorite throw is Turning Point st.elmo.
My favorite trick is probably any slack or tech tricks by Takeshi, and the wrist mount combo by Fujisaka.
I found yoyoexpert when I was searching for yo-yo strings online.

Welcome to the forums! Looks like you’re a big fan of all things Japanese.

Hey @Marioyo! As a machine shop foreman I foresee your input as being valuable around here! Happy yoyo.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Lots of info available here, even more from the members who frequent this space.
I love seeing the new member posts. This hobby needs new blood and new perspective to remain relevant. Such a fun hobby with many good peeps willing to help.

Hello all, I’m a returning thrower. I recently got back into yoyoing after a ~10 year hiatus. I’m excited to be back and looking forward to sharing this forum with you all. My old collection has been sitting in the box the whole time and everything plays like it did the day I left it. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind if someone could give me a quick run down on what has changed since I was last around.

Welcome back! That’s a long hiatus!

Lots have changed since then. Now there are unresponsive yoyos everywhere, tons of boutique companies, quite a few boutique string makers. YoYoJam is no more and the tricks are insane nowadays. The most popular yoyos nowadays are the Topyo Silenus, A-RT Grail, Markmont Classic, Markmont Classic Magnum Opus, Throw Spiral Kappa, YoYoFriends Hummingbird, YoYoFriends Peregrine, C3yoyodesign Speedaholic XX (plastic), Recess First Base (beginner yoyo), YoYoRecreation Chopsticks Gorilla, YoYoRecreation Draupnir, Dressel Designs Assassin (pocket yoyo), One Drop Panorama (slimline yoyo) and pretty much every single Round Spinning Objects (RSO) yoyo.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I greatly appreciate the list of yoyos. I will be looking into them haha

Huh, since I started back up in August I’ve managed to avoid acquiring all of those despite buying like 20+ throws.

Funny old world.

Interesting, but I think it’s mostly due to the yoyos being difficult to obtain (Grail, MC, MCMO, Kappa, Assassin, Chopsticks Gorilla, Panorama and RSOs) and a lot of them are old so you don’t see them being brought up too often nowadays. If you’re only buying the newer releases you would miss most of these.
