thank you
Hi there! Reacquainting myself w responsive yo-yos (itās been 30 years) and dabbling in the unresponsive world. Mind blown!
Welcome! I made a similar return after ~ 30 years two years ago. Iām thoroughly enjoying it (although not very good at all).
I suggest looking at the 0A/Fixed Axle stuff for a more nostalgic experience (although greatly advanced from 30 years ago). My experience was that I enjoyed that for a while, but pretty quickly moved to unresponsive play.
This is a very welcoming place.
Enjoy the hobby and forum!
What unresponsive yo are you throwing now?
I really like my One Drop Sugar Glider (~$50), which is a little on the wide, small diameter side, so maybe not a good general suggestion. For me tricks just seem to go well on it.
People here will likely suggest a Recess First Base ($20, but not available now) or Replay Pro ($16) for a first unresponsive. Both are plastic, and Iāve not played either. (I started with a One Star, but pretty quickly found I prefer metal yoyos.) There are others better suited to guide you.
Iāve owned loads of First Bases, I like them a lot, and I give em away to new players a lot, too. Down to a single glitter one, currently. Replay pro is also nice, itās more powerful and might be better for someone starting unresponsive straightaway compared to the First Base.
Welcome back to yoyos! Similar to @gregoryfromearth, I picked them up just a couple years ago (early 2018) after not touching a yoyo since the Yomega Brain days.
Hi Everyone! Iām Nowel coming here from Vancouver. Excited to be a part of the community!
I used to throw all the time, until I lost pretty much all my yoyos on a flight home after spending a year away. But now Iām back. Itās been about four years, so thereās been a bit of a re-learning curve, but Iām excited to be throwing again. I also have more money now that Iām working, so Iāve been kinda going all out with buying new throws. Might see me on the BST soonā¦
Welcome to ya from Pennsylvania in the USA. What are you throwing and what are you looking for in the BST?
Thanks! I havenāt been able to put down the Garret. When I got back and saw that Jensen and Charles had made their own company I had to check it out. So far itās exceeded my expectations. As for BST Iām looking for more A-RT (already in love with the brand), but mostly some classic CLYW stuff (Chief, Summit, etc.). All the stuff I wanted but couldnāt afford as a kid!
Hey yāall. I have been throwing for a few months now but I am just getting on these boards. I look forward to getting to know you all!
Welcome aboard. Tell us what your throwing. We love to see pics!
Thank you! I will get pictures up soon. I like CLYWs and A-RTs mostly, but I am definitely in an exploring phase mood!
What up yoyo people? Dan here from Ontario Canada. I did a lot of responsive yoyoing when I was in my late teens/early twenties (about 15 years ago). 38 now and 5 weeks into throwing again and the world of unresponsive play (a lot has changed!). I am a bit of a serial hobbiest⦠I jump from thing to thing and love to collect/try everything to see what all the hype is about. Currently 30+ throws strong in my collection with about 7 of those still in the mail. So far really digging one drop and CLYW throws. Of the throws I have I think I enjoy organics the most (OD Overture probably being my favorite at the moment). As far as trick progression is concerned Iām able to do the mach 5/cold fusion/barrel rolls cleanly and consistently. Currently working on reverse barrel rolls and combos including flips. Really enjoying my re-introduction and taking my time to get consistent with different tricks. Iāll be hanging around here a lot as with Covid going on I spend a LOT of time on my computer.
Hi my name is Rob. I think I started with yo-yos around 1986 playing Duncanās. I was in a couple competitions and even won a trophy with Don Duncan Jrās signature. I was a big fan of Tom Kuhn yo-yos, and still think they are some of the most beautiful and well made yo-yos ever made. I just started playing a little again recently and ordered a One Drop Deep State off yo-yo expert and found the forum. Iāll let you know what I think of it when I get it.
What a great trophy!
Like you, and many of us, I returned recently (2018) after a long break from responsive play. I also got a Deep State as one of my early throws on return, and found it to be a great bridge between my past enjoyment of yoyo, and modern unresponsive play. I still really love it, and hope you do too!
That describes exactly what I was hoping it would be like. Thank you
Just got my One Drop Deep State. I ordered it on Friday after 5pm and received it today (the following Monday)! Super fast service. Thank you yo-yo expert.
The deep state is amazing. I donāt have any experience with a good quality modern unresponsive yo-yo, but this is the smoothest longest spinning yo-yo Iāve ever played with. And it is more responsive than I thought it would be, but it still sleeps really well. Well worth it.
Amazing way to get back to yoyoing, I hope you enjoy your journey.
Hi, Iām Andy. Iām from Boulder, Colorado.
Iāve been playing with yo-yos off and on since I was maybe 5 years old.
Since that was over three decades ago, I learned mainly on classic fixed axle responsive yo-yos.(string tricks and looping)
My first was a no-brand wooden Imperial-style model with a picture of Snoopy on the side I got as a birthday present. I also found some early Duncan Imperials in my parentsā junk drawer and played with them all through my childhood.
The first one I bought myself was a Tom Kuhn No-Jive 3-in-1.
I started getting back into yo-yos a couple years ago by way of an interest in begleri and other skilltoys.
Iām learning unresponsive but havenāt got many tricks under my belt aside from the bind.
I am learning some modern fixed-axle tricks, too.
Welcome to our little yoyo world. I live in Pennsylvania and itās below freezing. Iām glad you joined us!
