Introduce Yourself!

Greetings all,

By way of an introduction - this is Steve hailing from Putnam County New York (right next to Danbury Connecticut). I’ve been lurking on the forums recently, so I thought I would finally set up an ID for the occasional post and response.

I’ve only been Yoyoing for about a year. I started when I came across a video of a modern YoYo player and was blown away by what people are doing these days. Shortly thereafter I saw a video of Ed Haponik throwing and decided I had to give it a try. I’ve been 3-ball juggling for a long time and YoYo seemed like a good extension of that.

After stumbling through the initial phases of getting some beginner Yoyos and learning the basic tricks, I found YoYoExpert. Soon I had much better Yoyo’s, had learned how to bind and could start to do some of the intermediate tricks. As everyone here knows, YoYoExpert.com is an awesome resource for Yoyoing.

Compared to the vast majority of the audience here, I’m an old guy. I’m 53 years old and living proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, it just takes a lot longer. Current Yoyos I own that get regular rotation include a GeneralYo Majesty (purchased during one of YoyoExpert’s Feeding Frenzy YoYo drops), a Shutter, a Dark Magic, a CLYW Yeti, a OneDrop Dingo, Spencer Berry’s Walter YoYo and just last week I got the MonkeyFingeR/G-Squared Co-Lab in the Party Time colorway. I use a Duncan Hornet and a Tom Kuhn for the looping tricks.

I recently got Boingy-Boing mostly solid, and have started working on Skin the Gerbil. I’m also trying to get some new binds together, and linking tricks together in combos. It’s a long road ahead, but a fun one.

Thanks again to the folks at YoYoExpert for getting me, and I’m sure many others, this far. Wooo Oooo!

Wow… Your old…  But who said that was a bad thing? Its pretty cool to see some older guys getting into the hobby of yoyoing. It’s a lot of fun.

Welcome to the forums.

B(TW I’m only 14 so I know 53 isn’t that old it just seems old for me)

Hello everyone, my name is Logan. New to the forum so I just wanted to say hello and say some stuff about myself. I’m 21 years old, getting back into yoyoing after many years away from it and becoming more and more interested every day. My interests include video gaming, tattoos, Everyday Carry (tools, knives, flashlights, ect) and I am a diehard shoe collector. I’m a packaging specialist for an Antique Tractor parts producer in Michigan, and I love what I do. Thanks for making a great forum for me to learn from. Learning unresponsive off a YYF Velocity but I ordered a YYF Shutter tonight.

Welcome to the forums

BTW theres a special thread for this

I read an email about that RIGHT after I submitted this post. Feeling pretty silly. Haha.

Jammer 61 - you may be old but I am older and welcome. And remember, those tricks us old dogs learned are still the basis for all of the new tricks.

40 here.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been throwing for a week and I’m 100% addicted. I can’t believe how awesome yoyoing is these days. I’m 34, so it’s been a while since I was rocking the baby with an Imperial.

Last weekend my girlfriend and I stopped in a random toy shop just to be nostalgic and to have some fun. I saw the yoyo rack and was like, “Oh yea, I remember this!” I bought a Yomega Ooch Yo, just because it looked cool. Here’s the funny part - I got home and threw it, and it didn’t come back. It just sat there, spinning. I couldn’t understand it. A few Internet searches later, and I discovered that it wasn’t supposed to!! What?! What was this all about?? Well, I had to figure it out. That same night I stayed up till 2 a.m. learning to bind. I was hooked. Throughout the week I researched, learned, and threw till my fingers hurt. I can hit Brain Scrambler and Trapeze now, and I’m pumped. I ordered a Shutter which should be in Monday.

I’m excited to join the yoyo community, and I can’t wait to learn more.

Peace.

Welcome to the forums.

The people at the toy place should have told you it was unresponsive but maby they didn’t know.

Thank you hobbyman101! Yes - experience is everything! (And barely a day goes by without a rationalization ;D)

Glad to be here…

Hello, I’m Victor Kojuharov. I live in London but I’m from Bulgaria. I’ve competed in the UK and I have a 3rd place at Nationals last year. I’ve been yoyoing for 3 years now and I don’t plan on stopping.

I love the solenoid <3
peace

Hi my name is Quinn Painter and im a yoyo noob :-. My first yoyo (which i got 2 days ago!) was given to me by my friend. It was a yomega brain. He was teaching me how to use it and i got hooked! He showed me this website too. This is my third day using a yoyo and im already waiting for a Fast 201 in the post!

I like pie!

Welcome.

I like pie too.

Well Hi all. New to the forums. Well my name is Charlie Ryder, I started this hobby/obsession a couple years ago after running into I gent I knew awhile back and after seeing my brother-in-laws yoyos. It is crazy now a days, I only remember Dunkin imperials and butterflys as a kid and that was several decades ago. Thank god for kids they can bring you back to your youth at times, I have 3 and it is great.

The amount of info out there is staggering and the players are top notch, I only remember seeing Tom Smothers on tv and trying to learn from the little fold up thing you got in yoyo. As my user name says I like to throw stuff, when I am not throwing a yoyo, I am throwing a boomerang, juggling or fishing lure(my other obsession) some where. Along with water balloons and snowball at my kids. Trying to convince the wife I need throwing hawks now(not to throw at the kids) all in the name of my sons scout advancement.

We started going to a store called A2Z when time permits, some dude told me the classes where free, great having 3 kids free is for me. Found out he was a liar(so to speak) the classes are free but all the stuff, oh sweet zombie jesus the stuff we just HAVE to HAVE… After getting us some projams to start and seeing what was out there and watching our first Zgames. The kids(me) got hooked like a Bass on a top water popper. Its great to have kids, they make buying stuff easier, we got us some Journies, legacies, Dark Magic II, Dv 888, Benchmark H, Big one, Grind machine, spin beatle, and some others I cant think of right now, I like to dabble in all aspects.

When my schedule is adjusted right, it kind of like aligning the planets sometimes. We get to go out to see some events and to A2Z or over to yoyoexpert to buy more stuff. Most of the time I just watch videos here and youtube. I love the skill yoyo offers and how you can take this spinning thingy and make it to all kinds of tricks.

Yoyoing helps pass the time when I have to be out at dance things with my girls.

I drive the wife nuts with it, I found I have to throw everyday. We’re just getting into kendams and some astrojax also. Hope to get to know some of you here and meet up out in the real world.

Hello! My name is skt. I live in Japan.
My favorite style is 1A & 4A.
I’m not good at English, but I want to improve.
I think I will want to make some yoyovideos.

^Welcome everyone.

A2Z is a real fun place. I love it there. If you haven’t already, hit up yoyo school and ask for help on tricks. Tylor Mccaulumore’s really helpful. And he’s a lefty so it’s easier to learn string tricks from him. You just mirror what he’s doing

Hey everyone, basepi here.

My name is Colton Myers, and I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Got into yoyos about 6-7 years ago, first yoyo was in fact a Duncan Imperial. Shopped around at local stores, got a few other duncans, then finally discovered the online community. Ended up with a shimmed hybrid Hitman that I loved. (Sad that it eventually cracked) Eventually fell into disuse, and ended up not picking up a yoyo at all for about 6 years. Got back into it a month or so ago, and been loving it! Picked up a few new throws (aluminum is all the rage now, apparently!), and trying to get the basics down again.

Anyway, look forward to getting to know everyone! Come hang out on IRC, I’m always logged on!
