Have any of you tried the Nessie 24 from G2?

I think its really cool that its a re do of a classic! I wish i could have scored one.

Hello, welcome to the best forum!
I add myself to the list of longing for the past

The past is kind of relative. “Old” One Drop and SPYY, those are all modern yo-yos to me. You’re not really stuck in the past if you’re not dusting off your VCR to learn brain-twister from Dennis McBride on your YoYo man yo-yo.
And no, I don’t do that.
I have the McBride DVDs.

I am a man who loves the yo-yo’s of my era too, you aren’t alone! I am sticking my toes in the pond of the modern era as I continue to grow back into the hobby, though. Happy throwing!

How’d you get such a high-quality video of me when I first saw this thread?

When I returned to YoYo 1.5 years ago I was all about my kid years. Late 90’s boom Playmaxx/ProYo. Now I get more excited about modern throws by G2, MK1 + SW, OD, Dreamcraft, because it’s more interactive socially. Also new drops are exciting! I will always love playing my Turbo Bumble Bees and ProYo II’s.

I do buy everything new that has 90’s heritage though :joy:

I like that I can say I love old YoYo’s point at a Raider and fireball and still get one new today. Only thing yomega has done right. I can grab my nostalgia throw whenever the heck I want.

Welcome Back.

There are quite a few of us with a similar point of view.

Classic back from 2017 still an iconic model in my opinion

I was really tempted but I heard it doesn’t have the hefty old school feel. Also ti bape is an excellent remake of the bape if you’re looking for something cool!

As someone who got into this somewhat recently, i love oldschool throws.

Being able to own a mint yoyojam hitman would be my DREAM.

Bought the first two OD drops, added a few M1’s and and projects along the way. Was lucky to get some old peaks (Gen 2- not painted ones), a cool SPYY or two and a General Yo pre- release. Got a lot of old stuff in my case, regretfully do not remember their names. I just open and throw, and the box hits the trash.

…we came in?

I have been pondering this as well (especially since i am bored at my desk at work a lot lol)

Why -in the light of a constantly improving industry that is alive and full of innovation and producing quality, more afoordable, better yoyos - do i keep looking “backwards” for my favorite yoyos? “Forwards”, i.e. the future and present moment, surely has better performing yoyos at a better price to help me achieve my goal of being better? This was true in the past, so why wouldnt it be true right now?

And the reason is that each yoyo, each piece of my collection, is not only a toy that has physical value, but it also is an anchor for myself. In this life where we may feel adrift in a vast world full of just ENDLESS NAMELESS STUFF, do i have my yoyo in my pocket. This yoyo, this anchor, beings me to a simpler time- a time where i had all my prothers living at home, mom and dad were still together, we are in our old house, to where i was spending what little money i had on toys like this one. It reminds me of my first girlfriend laughing at me for whipping out my yomega fireball, of being the coolest of the highschool band nerds, of people sticking their heads into my dorm roo in undergrad and sticking aroudn to see what other tricks i could do.

Thats what i am chasing. The CLYW sasquatch? Thats just the vector, the vehichle, for me to travel back in time fort a split sec. The SPYY Addiction? thats just a photo of who i used to be.

The Crucial Maple that i just got? In a couple of years I will remember who i am now- in the future ill be looking back at who i was before i had kids, when i was still living in an apartment with my new wife, when i had my old chihuahua. You build memoreis to come back later. Things always come full circle, the new yoyos of today will be old titans of tomorrow.

Isnt this where…

Man, it’s been a while since I posted here. I, indeed, enjoy older yo-yos. I started throwing during the 90’s boom and came back around 2008-2009. All-time favorites are the FHZ, Freehand Mg (More Gooder), 888, Grind Machine 2, OG DNA, SPYY Pure, among many others. Something I’ve been on the lookout for are small bearing 888s. Small bearing is something from the past that I wish would come back for unresponsive play. Probably wouldn’t sell well as its not en vogue these days. Good to see Ed and Cow pop in here!

I started playing around 2012 so don’t know if that qualifies as old school BUT this yoyo encapsulates that: Crucial Cream

Beautifully stated! That Peak Sebby is not my favorite because it is a Peak, it is a favorite because my wife stayed up late for the drop and bought it for me (she was probably sick of hearing me talk about how bad I wanted one).
Hopefully ten years from now you will remember how some old fart on the yoyo forum fought you hand to hand for that Maple because he missed the drop.
Just kidding! Man I want one of those and I am green with envy. It is one of those shifts in yoyo that will be remembered years from now, and put us all in a specific place and time.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, I started playing in the late 90’s A few years back I went on a bit of a nostalgia run I picked up some of my favourites from back then and while it was fun and brought back some fond memories I realised I much prefer modern yoyos and stopped chasing the past with a few exceptions obviously.

Here’s an OG right here!

You’re in good company my friend!
