10 around the worlds and back to hand with this old sleep machine today, the past is a pretty fun place.
Woah- the Henry’s with the big soft edges! I wish I could remember where mine went.
Sometimes someone can say something so simple and sincere in an introduction to a group of people that would result in said group of people anxiously vomiting all the love they have to give to a new family member.
Welcome
You have found a well rounded asylum we have all flavors
Everyone have a great rest of the week
Love older throws. This year brought me down a rabbit hole of nabbing some BC yoyos as well as getting a SB2 and it’s winged counterpart, Tomcat…Oh yea, and a TK Sleep Machine that I absolutely love.
As far as unresponsive, I went down the rabbit hole trying to get some Spyy stuff I missed out on when I rediscovered this hobby in the early 2010s. I still love a good undersized 50mm throw today.
I think personally there are some “vintage” throws that are what I would label as “must haves” for me in the fixed and responsive category.
With that said, some of the newer throws and recent drops have revamped older designs and improved the playability to the point that it’s similar enough, that the “feel” is close and the performance strikingly better.
I frequently catch the nostalgia bug, but I find if there are some manufacturers like ZGRT and CLYW (just to name two) which have produced, in my humble opinion, the highest quality throws…… I’m always watching for release dates.
It’s great that today there are many options to choose from, and we have something called the “internet” now to get throws from all over the world.
ahhh my people, so i’ve found you! I’ve only been here a week or so & in that time i think i bring it up - a lot - but the Peter Fish Luminator is what stuck with me. Unknown to me, there was a yoyo boom around when my daughter was born - 2004. I got to stay home with her for 3 weeks. While she was sleeping, I bought 10 or so & nothing was “working for me” - an absolute noob. I put them all in a shoe box & called it a day. Months later, at Walgreens - for $3.99 - I picked up the above mentioned yoyo savior. 46 grams & THAT shape just … clicked! I was never into string tricks - mount?, no thank you - just hop the fence into loop type stuff & man that thing did it so well I was hooked. It was very similar to when I got a toy grade r/c heli for Christmas in 2011. It started a very addicting hobby (r/c helis/planes/jets). The Lumski stays on my bedside to this day. Recently I started throwing again & the Origen is - maybe - even better! The plastic 46 grams is easier on the hand for sure, but knowing more now, about managing momentum & throwing in general, the 55 grams (Origen) is so, … effortless & smooth - a small flick of the wrist sends it happily on its way. The feel is where it’s at for me. Slowing it down, then that 55 kicks in & we’re going again - just can’t get enough! I could go on & on & i think i did. Anyway, very glad to find the old coots den. Howdy gents & ladies
If you haven’t yet, look up “modern responsive,” might be up your alley.
on it like stink on a money
dude get this - Mark from mk1 sold me a rbc proto last week - very interesred in how it plays - arriving soon
I’m still stuck in the past in 2026, been throwing mostly responsive. Recently was looking up HSpin’s Handquake 2 (another oldschool brand) and only things I was seeing about it was “dated design for a modern release” and “why?” but that’s what got this fish to bite…looking at it as a modern responsive player and old head 90s yoyo boomer. And it delivered. Waiting on a Renegade that may or may not arrive - an iconic yoyo of the late 90s and early 00’s as well.
funny - i was looking at HSpin’s site last night - did u know they’re 50% off if u buy 3 or more? i think they were $84 a piece + $12 shipping. The red + one caught my eye. And funny also, I have 2 old 2004 or so Renagades - they taught me how to loop (forgot to put that in my little history), but they are heavy - i broke some strings on that baby when i was learning - & knew about changing string lol. How do u like the hquake2?
Enjoying the Handquake 2 so far - I have it paired up with some thick nylon (Stranger Strings “CS124”), the slim bearing, and some Danco Silicone Grease to get that perfect snap and feel.
