How often do you change your string?
As often as it gets too worn, so that really depends on the string. Not just material but also weave plays a big part in how quickly a string frays. Dirty or frayed strings can also make the bearing dirty so at some point it’s less hassle to just swap it out because cleaning bearings is kinda a pain.
Haven’t changed mine in a year, been considering to do so.
Every 4-5 hours of playtime, depending on how hard I play that day.
Once binds start feeling a little off, I just cannot manage string torsion, or the strings looking dirty are my typical signals that it’s time to refresh.
I’ve also changed string because “actually, this YoYo would look better with an orange string rather than this pink”
I change it after it looks all tattered or finger dirt and oils set off my ocd and it gets repurposed as a cat toy for a few minutes. My wife uses left over string to tie back plants she is shaping for bonsai.
Depends on the tricks I’m doing and how intense I’m playing. Normally if I’m just being casual with it it’s good for like a few days, but if I’m recording a really intense combo going at like 100% speed, I change it like every 30 min to an hour. I remembering asking this pro player one time how often she changes it and she said like every hour
wait…you can change the string???
Never!!! Idk when it feels like it needs changing. That’s pretty vague though
I wash my string when the just look dirty but nylon you can do that with
You can wash string!? Never really thought about it![]()
nylon gets a lityle bounce back. it doesn’t really affect poly except it brightens up visibly, play doesn’t improve. when you wash a pair of jeans throw a couple strings in the pocket
I…….don’t know how often I change my string…..I actually think not often enough. But I often can’t be bothered to measure and cut new string even though it’d be nice to play with it.
This has to be one of the hardest questions to give advice about. I’m going to say it’s going to come down to looking at the string condition if it’s discolored, snagging and fraying. I never had a string snap on me yet but if your using some really good string you likely don’t need to change that often. Some people mentioned washing the string during doing laundry makes the string useable again but I never tried that. I don’t throw away my string an I’m planning on washing the string an seeing if my string can be used to practice with or tossed out to the garbage. I actually wish I could recycle the waste somewhere instead sending it to the landfill.
Me too! A different color string on my most used yoyos gives it a fresh look and it sort of feels / looks like a new yoyo!
For advanced play, I change my string every 1-2 hours.
I mostly change string because it looks nasty. I also change string if it doesn’t feel good, or seem to hold torsion/tension. The yo-yos I take to work I change string on more frequently, but that’s because I get pencil led/markers on my fingers, and I don’t have a sink to wash my hands before I loop up and throw down.
I generally change when I want to change up the colors. Otherwise, I keep washing them!
If I’m using the same yoyo for a day I’ll probably end up changing strings the next day. If I’m rostering through a few, they’ll last longer.
Generally, when the string torsion gets unmanageable and I feel like I’m spending more time getting out snags and axle knots, that’s when I know it’s time. That, or if I get a stubborn knot I don’t feel like dealing with.
I change my string after every yo-yo trick
I do 30 tricks an hour
So I change my string 30 times an hour
I practice eight hours a day
So I changed my string 240 times a day
I make my own strings one at a time.
I make 15 strings and hour.
It takes me 16 hours to make my daily 240 strings.
That equals 24 hours.
I don’t sleep, often.
I do the same 30 tricks per hour.
I haven’t learned a new trick in 28 years.
But I can land most of the 30 tricks I know at least one out of 10 times, so there’s that.
The only bad experience I ever had was about 10 years ago.
I woke up one day and I couldn’t do any of my 30 tricks. Not a single one of them. I tried and I tried and I struggled and I couldn’t believe it. For a whole week I couldn’t land a single trick.
But then all of a sudden I had an epiphany. It came to me just like in a dream. It saved the day. All of a sudden I realized I was doing all my tricks right handed. And I’m actually left-handed. So after I remembered that, I could land my tricks again
I love happy endings.
