House music, DnB, and other types of EDM… DJs and fans!

waddup y’all! i don’t think there’s been an electronic dance music post, so i wanted to see if there’s any other djs, producers or fans out here that still grind it out. i went to a little house music night on Friday at a sushi lounge that was very cool. i dj/spin records myself, and used to dabble a little bit in production, but nothing that was ever released publicly. i still have the original pair of technics 1200mk2 that i bought almost 30 years ago. i have records galore, and all over the place. i’m not much in the digital dj era, aside from a modern mixer, a second sampler and an effects processor. i don’t play nearly as i much as i used to, but i’ll jump behind the wheels every now and again. i primarily play house music and drum ‘n bass, but i have hip-hop, trance, uk hard house, progressive and the whole lot… definitely have collected a ton of music over the years, and i enjoy music a lot. this isn’t a pitch for likes, i just made a soundcloud account today and uploaded a mix if you want to listen (https://on.soundcloud.com/76Q2Tprt26IeVar8ig). It’s predominantly house with some hiphop influences…

so, enough about me, what about you? are you an old school head who’s been in it for decades? are you just biting your teeth and trying to break through? do you just want to dance all night long?!! what’s been your experience? love you all!

Wanna DJ my wedding?

while i do appreciate the offer, i don’t have the traditional tracks like dancing queen by abba or the marcarena, so i tend not to dj weddings… mostly clubs, parties, art shows, etc. places where they don’t do ‘requests’ a lot of the time. thank you though quinton!

You got the chicken dance?

When i was 17, so 10 years ago, my best friend got stanton st150s (in my opinion better than sl1200s, but we had to get them fixed a cuple of times) and a mixer for christmas and i got some records. Since then we played a couple of times per year in clubs and at friends. We started with techno but went more to house, disco and uk garage. Now i also own some synths, drum machines and samplers but never really took it that serious and was more goofin around with them.

A year ago i moved to Ecuador and only took a small sampler with me because ill move back to germany next year. But i gotta say i really miss to dj

I like to make music with my OP-Z and OP-1 (groovebox synth things), tho I haven’t really published anything worth sharing.

I enjoy edm, but also only have a handful of favorite tracks or artists. I love Tycho, but that’s more ambient chill:

Was into dubstep when that first got popular, my favorite tracks being:

I look forward to checking out what else gets shared in here, always lookin for bangers

I’ve been a fan of all kinds of electronic music since I was a kid in the 90’s. It really took off starting with The Prodigy when Firestarter came out. I became obsessed with them and collected all of their albums and most of their singles/EPs I could find from overseas. I also listened to other electronic artists that were coming up at the time like Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, etc.

Eventually, I got heavy into IDM/Braindance and I still listen to a lot of those artists on a regular basis. Some of my favorites are Squarepusher, Ceephax Acid Crew, Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, μ-Ziq… I love music that is constantly changing and evolving.

Never been a DJ but I’ve been a musician for a long time, mostly playing bass in a few bands, and have been making music for fun on my computer as a hobby. Haven’t made any new tracks in a while but here’s my SoundCloud with a bunch of weird stuff if anyone is interested - Stream Scotty Kill music | Listen to songs, albums, playlists for free on SoundCloud

Pretty sure everyone who was spinning vinyl in 2000 had that Alice Deejay record…

I spun records for a few years in the mid-late 90’s with a good friend. He lived with DJ Z-Trip for a while, who became a pretty successful mash-up artist. We learned a lot from him and the rest of the Bombshelter crew. Never was all that skilled myself, but had a lot of fun playing a couple local bars. Unfortunately I ended up getting rid of all of my vinyl and my gear a long time ago.

My friend and I were always playing really eclectic sets, trying to beat match between vastly different genres, which in retrospect was influenced by Z-Trip. But there was always some deep house, trip-hop, and big beat in the mix.

I’m not as into it as I once was, but combing through today’s work playlist I see Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, DJ Shadow, Ghostland Observatory, DJ Krush, and Danger Mouse.

The movie Hackers is where I discovered The Prodigy, and I was instantly a fan. I still remember a friend and I driving to 3 different record stores to find a copy of Fat of the Land the day it dropped. Hard to believe that was 28 years ago…

Very well known classic dubstep song that sampled Andres voice

That movie had a great soundtrack and Fat of the Land is still so good. I can’t believe it was 28 years ago either… I was 12 :sob:

prodigy were fantastic, rip keth. i’ve collected a bunch of their music, but still would like an original press of charly lol…. really enjoy ism and the likes of aphex twin, squarepusher, etc.

@MinerJ that is sick you cliqued up with z-trip. he’s an amazing artist and some of his mixes/remixes are incredible. he performed a live remix of ‘dust in the wind’ at a festival sometime back and it gave me chills. very talented.

a few years ago i went to the dj shadow x cut chemist show where they were playin all afrika bambatta’s original records. it was intense, hiphop at its finest.

same! it’s also the movie that originally sparked my interest in computers and technology. other kids wanted to be astronauts and doctors, but i wanted to be a hacker lol
