If any of you happen to own or know somebody that owns a GoPro 13… Do you personally or have they experienced overheating problems, or communication problems with their camera?
Wirecutter noted that it will overheat when recording at max settings, sounded like it’s been an issue with previous ones as well.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- It gets really hot when recording at max quality. How long the camera can record and whether it will shut off to protect itself depends on the ambient temperature and other factors, but reducing the resolution and frame rate greatly increases the run time. After the camera cools, you can continue recording. We were able to shoot for roughly 45 minutes at 5.3K 60, slightly longer than what GoPro claims for an unventilated environment (in our case, with the camera sitting on a desk). That’s far longer than we’ve been able to go with previous GoPro models.

I still stand by my thoughts that GoPro peaked at the Hero 7 black. Such a good camera and they seem to all go downhill and took away features after Hero 7. Added a few features, but came with downsides.
I have one and that happens to mine too and also my videos are really laggy for some reason
I won’t be buying another GoPro after my experience with the Hero10. I don’t like the App, and it overheats. I’ll likely give DJI a go, mostly because I have several of their drones so I’m already familiar with their ecosystem.
Had this issue with the 9 black so I sold it and went back to the hero 4 black. It still takes pretty decent 4k footage all these years later. Personally I’d go with a DJI, Sony or Insta360 over gopro these days. If you don’t need the “action” cam aspect, a decent mirrorless “dslr” would be even better.
Hero 8 is the gold standard for FPV drones because it supports Gyroflow.
I would certainly agree about the mirrorless.
I have a Nikon Z9 nd several Z lenses. Just the body and the ‘Plena’ lens, alone cost about $9000 bucks.
So…… It’s not exactly the brightest idea to tote around a set-up that people will have no problem killing me for.
And even almost as important is the portability factor.
For purpose specific tasks, a GoPro is much more practical…obviously.
I set my GoPro on the table next to a Z9 Setup and it is almost hilarious…
I certainly appreciate all the feedback from everybody.
