I got the black for me, (being the father) and a grey for my son. I haven’t really looked at the grey much, literally opened the box to make sure it wasn’t filled with sand then closed it and put it away. The black looks very nice and is quite shiny. I’m still unsure of what the coating is, ano, paint? You can do grinds with it but the coating inhibits this slightly. Thumb grinds are good though. The strings that come with it are excellent and look very striking against the black.
It’s nice owning a copy of the Ti-Walker, and it really is a fantastic playing yoyo.
I don’t have much to contribute here, except that I support the One Drop brown. It’s a beautiful color (at least in photos). I’m glad to have more brown appreciation here.
(Please don’t mention the word green on these forums. Consider yourself warned.)
I mean. I don’t know why the need for the warning!
It’s just that green ( ) is the bestest color ever. Green ( ) is better than red, green ( ) is faster than blue, green ( ) performs better than pink, green ( ) smells better than purple, green ( ) even tastes better than orange!
You see now…green ( ) is bestest. I really don’t even see why there needs to be any other color other than green ( ) in this world.
9 out of 10 dentist agree…green ( ) is the bestest!
They are for the Dove and I figure if I pick up any other yoyo before I get a chance to order from here again it will most likely take a slim pad so good to have a back up. As you can see from my pad collection that is left lol I used to have lots of pads although most of them are now obsolete due to yoyos going slim 19mm it seems now
Brown one drops I feel it is so much nicer in person than photos can make out. Some colours look better in picture but not as much IRL. Brown is one of those that doesn’t seem like it will be good until you actually have it in hand.
Man I’m 31 and got back into it around the same time LAST year and a lot of what you’re describing sounds similar. It looks like you have plenty of great suggestions, and I think you’re in for a great time dude. I went the visual route myself, even the “budget” throws way out performed anything I was used to from the early 2000s as I kinda fell off around 2008 myself, so I just got the shapes I like in the colors I liked and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I’d say check out Reticulated Return tops just to check them out, they’re not on YYE though so I know you’re probably not gonna purchasing anytime soon, but I mean just to check out some cool designs .
Other than that hopefully you keep active and keep us updated on your new experiences, I’m no competitor myself and due to work and responsibilities I learn tricks at a snails pace but it’s definitely been an improvement and stress reliever in my life making all the money I spent well worth it, have fun, cheers!
Thank you for the welcome and words on encouragement.
Great to hear that there are a lot of people in similar shoes as me.
Today I went to hand deliver my bumblebee to a guy who one the auction last night.
He looked about 10¬20 years older, says similar things, loved it as a kid and wants to get back into it.
He looked so happy, also as he was just getting started I gave him a fistful of strings to keep him stocked for a year. Wouldn’t have been the yoyo I would recommend for his first, but love this community and how it is growing and providing joy to those around.
[Edit]
Yoyo community was always one of the friendliest back in the 2000’s glad to see that at least something hasn’t changed in that regards
@codinghorror this is totally fair and understandable.
And it is actually what I automatically expected anyway. Kind of regretted even asking it in the first place after I asked.
Thank you for getting back to me regardless
Nice haul man!
Can’t wait for it all to get to you! I think you’ll be very pleased with how smooth and long spinning modern yos have become! It’s kind of ridiculous!
I’m at a point where it doesn’t really matter what yoyo I use as long as it feels good, which changes like the weather lol. You mentioned that you’d like to be able to meet whatever ambiguous goal your inner

being demands, which is exactly what I had when I started, but the problem with looking up is that you’re more inclined to look up more often rather than down which always leads to an endless and insatiable strive for improvement (good luck with that). As for looking good, people often become impressed when you shatter their ideas of what yoyos can do by doing as much as landing a trapeze and going to a brother mount, but if you want to show off to other yoyoers, I like to value people that yoyo like it’s an extension of their body rather than simply an instrument in the 3d space. I could shout criticisms about others all day, but you know what they say about pointing fingers, “there are more fingers pointing back at you than there are at them”. So here’s to playing yoyo and maybe getting better too
What was my point again?
Oh yeah, enjoy your haul and don’t forget to post a picture in the mail day thread! Post a topic in the Contests, Clubs, and Events category too to look for people in your area!
Oh, man, do I feel this post. I got back in a few months back (mostly thanks to this forum) after nearly 20 years away. And, for some reason, I put extra pressure on myself to at least be decent due to my age (47). It doesn’t make sense, but it’s a thing for me. That being said, I still open carry a yoyo, and I still throw in public even though I’m not that good. I get a lot of smiles for it and the occasional conversation and reminiscing from folks that remember the hobby fondly and that’s about it. I also keep a Pro Z in my pocket so I can walk the dog, since they will ask. It happened the very first time I threw in public, at a gas station while waiting for the tank to fill up.
