Out of all of the expensive, interesting, technically “advanced” yoyos Ive owned at one point or another, None have really played better overall than the duncan sale Windrunner i got for like ~$20 bucks.
The Windrunner is awesome. I have a black one.
I have to agree. I got one as a freebie on yoyo day last year. It’s a beast.
Not after I found the Ti Krown.
I had a chemistry professor in college who used to say “if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate”. Thank you for reminding me of good memories…
that’s even better!
my environmental chemistry professor used to say, “a little bit is good, more is better. that’s the american way!” in context of adding more of X to Y

If your not part of the solution then your a gas or solid. Nuff said. Word to your mother.
I’m never entering yo-yo joes giveaways…
He lets people get multiple entries for every time they comment which is super annoying. The comments are filled with spam, 997 views, 220 likes, and then 2.37 k comments. This is a problem. Lots of the comments are just spam like ‘thank you’ ‘thank you’ ‘thank you’ all by the same person. It’s dumb that he allows spam, otherwise I would attempt to vin a free vosun EZ spin 3. But, that’s my rant.
Anyone care to share mental strategies you use to convince yourself not to buy yo-yos?
Part of my collection purging I’ve been doing the last few months is to help with that, but I still can’t help scrolling through the storefront like “oh I’d probably like that.”
Trying being broke. Great strategy.
Being broke and being an adolescent incapable of earning income are very different things.
my boss (older brother) hasn’t pay me for my much earned work.
He’s gaming the Instagram feed ranking algorithm which looks at likes, re-shares, views, and comments. So while I agree it’s a really really bad way to run a giveaway, I can understand why he does it…
Mine is ‘Nah, I can’t justify spending that much’ or ‘Nah, I can make something like it instead’.
I agree with you.
I’m also pretty sure Youtube’s engagement algorithm ignores these spam comments easily. What’s a double bad idea though is to ask for subscribes and likes, which could violate YouTube’s contest policies and guidelines.
It’s a shame because otherwise I think his content is very enjoyable.
Here’s what works for me to keep my collection at approx 7 throws:
I give myself a finite number of “Yoyo type” that I want to throw every day.
Which are for example V-shape, Organic chill, Plastic, Responsive, Titanium, Wide-Competiton, bi-metal (still haven’t filled that last spot yet!).
Each role corresponds to one Yoyo.
If I see a yoyo I like, I need to put it in one of my categories and get rid of the previous yoyo that was filling the spot (in my case, I gift it).
Now obviously it doesn’t stop me to watch all reviews and new releases, etc…
But it forces to stay at a set number, and it also makes me really consider if a Yoyo I want will really be better than what I already own.
The worst part about his giveaways is that it promotes spamming in the comments, which can easily get your account deactivated. I’ve seen it happen to one too many unfortunate souls.
@durfee ( this is general advice) when paring down my collection the biggest things were to set collection goals. you can still want things: old, collectible, drops, etc… as long as you have goals in mind. a few of mine were:
- X amount of X # of brands
- overall collection cap(s)
- specific grail(s)
- specific pieces to try
- milestones
- etc
MAKE A DATABASE! regardless of how big or small your collection is, and no matter what type of player/collector you are. it makes it easier to look at your collection in one spot, assess your goals, and make a plan. track expenses, all the details… @Doohan and @AKYOYOMIKE have spoken about this at length…
and, BST… that’s what it’s for. i’d love to trade with ya @Durfee
Design your own:sweat_smile:
But also realizing that all yoyos are good, so finding things that rly stand out to you
It’s difficult to not buy yo-yos. I keep telling myself to use what I already have. For example, I recently got a C3 Krown; it’s my first C3 and it blew me away as soon as I threw it. My initial thought was “whoa what else does C3 have that I might like?” As I was browsing YYE I thought “if I like the Krown so much why not just use the Krown I just got?” The constant desire to “find something even better” is what does a lot of us in. Of course, if all yoyos were $500+ it would be easier to not buy yoyos just to try them out too.
So, keep purging and keep the ones you really like. Then next time you’re browsing ask yourself “will this new release really top my old favorite?”
