Interesting, I read this today:
Ultraviolet light will cause fluorescent or phosphorescent pigments to fluoresce, emitting visible light.
The sun and almost all types of white light bulbs emit some long wave ultraviolet light.
The ultraviolet spectrum is broken down into subcategories depending on wavelength:
- 450 - 400 nm Violet, (visible light)
- 400 - 320 nm UVA, Long Wave, Black Light ā (the sweet-spot)
- 320 - 280 nm UVB, Medium Wave
- 280 - 100 nm Short Wave, Germicidal
I learned that for a bulb/ fixture to effectively fluoresce, it has to emit long wave black light (400-320 nm). The sweet spot is ~365 nm. Above 400, itās basically just violet light. Below that range can actually damage eyes and skin.
365 nm wavelength light is not actually detectable to human eyes, but its effect on fluorescent or phosphorescent pigments is.
Since 365 nm wavelength light is not detectable to human eyes, LED fixtures often contain a mixture of LEDs; usually ranging from 405 nm with a few 365 nm LEDs scattered throughout to give them a happy balance of violet light output and ultra violet fluorescence.
So yeah. The more you know, lol.
Spintime Matador has some sharp spikes for those āmatadorā pull starts.

Nothing like the lovely scent of ano burn on a friday morningā¦was must messing with one of my One Drops, it tapped the floor whilst spinning and next thing I know, I smell a very familiar smell - similar to a spent firework. For some reason, have only experienced ano burn smells from CLYW and One Drops
Am I the only one that sometimes āpretendā to be yoyoing by doing the movements(of the elements, hops, etc) with no yoyo/string to memorize the elements of a combo? It looks like Iām doing tiktoks sometimes lmao
I know what you mean!
so there are a few different sized bearings, and A size are smaller for loopers, right? what are half spec bearings? i hear they make a yoyo responsive? do they fit in a normal yoyo like the Shutter?
A size are smaller bearings, theyāre not just for loopers but they are used in them. Half spec bearings are c size but half the width, and the make yoyos responsive. You canāt put one in a shutter or any unresponsive unless you had a shorter axle.
It has also happened to me that when hitting a CLYW on the floor of the house it smells like āburned hornā (!)
Curious smell:)
Totally agree.
But does a half spec C spin less freely than a full size? The reason i ask is iāve time on my hands at the moment (isolation) so iāve been getting to the problem with my delrin gamer. Anyway, the response was extreme so i started changing and cleaning bearings, and no matter what i did the half specs, still donāt spin as freely as the full.
Any ideas ? opinions ?
I know the delrin Gamer has a narrower gap than the metal. @MrYoyoThrower can you help out with these. Jeremy designed this yoyoā¦ You can contact him from the Rain City Skills website.
Thanx for the assist ChrisFranz. But i did a search and the answer was a simple matter of changing a pad. The thing i noticed along the way was the bearing. I tried 2 half spec and both did not spin as freely as the full size. Iām guessing thereās a reason, but iām not that bright to figure it out
where can i get a half spec, and the right axle?
YYE sells half spec bearings. The axle is a little more involved, depending on the throw you may not need a diferent one. If you do i think YYE does them but a stand to be corrected.
I got a new butterfly, named it Brimstone (itās a green butterfly) and itās not as good quality as the other butterfly I got for some reason it sleeps really bad and spins out a lot, also kinda unresponsive.
Hope I can get a First Base so I can practice and do tricks much easier lol
edit: iāll keep the butterfly, i think iāll just replace the string. the string is probably the problem here, thanks guys!
What yoyo are we talking about here? I can probably hook you up with the right axle, and I"ve got half-spec bearings.
stick with it.
Is it a Duncan ? If so its a fixed axle.
I donāt think that half specs spin as long as full.
