General Yo Fan Club Thread!!

Have you tried the Prestige 2022? I’m very much on the fence about buying one. I managed to snag a first run 5 Star back when they first released. Still one of my favorite yoyos to date. I’d love to own one again but they seem very hard to find.

I played the old prestige and to my knowledge they are close enough.

I will say it is a performance machine, completion ready throw, capable of finger spins, and grinds forever.

It’s also a steal at that price

I believe they will be dropping some mini star 2"s pretty soon as well, supposedly they most stable undersized pocket yoyo ever made

Was finally able to snap some pics of my General Yo collection, so here it is!

The most valuable to me is the Hatrick, I got it at Nationals in 2009 and it was the first “high end” yoyo I’ve ever bought. Other notable throws here (for me at least) are the KLR which is a 1 of 4 “badass” edition, the half green/half aman swirl KLR which is probably the throw I’ve used the most out of all my yoyos, and the first run 7075 Majesty which is very rare, as it came with a special wooden box made by Ernie’s dad. Out of all these, I pick up the 5 Star the most though - super nostalgic feel on that one. Most of my General Yo throws are super sentimental for me, as I picked them up when I was a lot younger, and have special memories surrounding them, as I often got them from Ernie himself at contests and stuff.

Absolutely beautiful collection. I don’t imagine you’ll ever let that carved box go, but if ever you do, reach out to me please.

I’ve played the torrent 2, 5 star and Hatrick like crazy and still do, 5 star forever, but the only other one I’ve tried is the prestige. I very much enjoyed the prestige.

My question would be, what would you recommend I try next from General yo?

This used to be my General-Yo collection. Crazy that it has been 8 years since I made this video. I think I was in middle school just about to go into high school. Sadly, ended up selling all of these when I quit and really regretted it so when I got back into throwing I began to collect them again. Although, I still have some left to acquire, I can say I’ve gotten some back already. I’ll have to take an updated collection pic soon!

That is one hell of a collection!

Feel your pain on getting out and selling off. I had a German 5 star and 2 b grade Hatricks (half swapped, half USA and half black). Also a Torrent 2, 1st run Hatrick and a Prophecy.

But we are rebuilding, and that’s a beautiful thing. Would love to see what all you have built back.

I only have three, but honestly, if I don’t get anymore I’m still happier than ever, lol.

Thanks dude! Your General Yo collection is shaping up beautifully as well.

You GOTTA try a KLR and Majesty. They’re the best playing General Yos out of all the ones I’ve tried. (I imagine the Legato plays better, but I just haven’t tried it).

Also wanted to post these, they’re my brother’s General Yo’s. He doesn’t have an account here or throw too much anymore, but I wanted to showcase em since they’re pretty rare.

Custom anno Ministar, badass Ministar, 1 of 1 half baby blue/half Aman KLR, 2nd run 6061 Majesty, raw pre pro Prestige

You both have some genuinely beautiful pieces.

Do you happen to know which models were made in the USA besides the following? I’d like to collect those first and then the rest.

Torrent, 5 star, Hatrick, Essence, Torrent 2, Ministar, Magnum and Entheos?

Check this page out if you haven’t. I know for sure the Amplitude and any/everything before it was made in the USA for sure. Tbh, not too sure on the Prophecy or 2nd run Prestige. I do know however that the Legato and most things that came after it (the Royal 1, Ministar 2, Essence 2020, Majesty 2020, and Prestige 2021) are made in China, minus the OD machined 5 Star (and Hatrick?). This is all to the best of my knowledge, I’d hit up Ernie to verify for sure. @the_general

I personally love the MIC General Yos, they’re still glass level General Yo smooth (maybe even more so than the USA stuff) and very extremely well made.

Yeah, that helps immensely. I just read a highspeed yoyo review of the Legato stating it was the first run made in China, and it definitely models your sentiments if being just as glass smooth. That tells me that likely all throws after minus the ten year anniversary 5 star and Hatrick are overseas. I imagine the move was done to bring the cost down to make the throws more affordable for the consumer. I played a Prestige and whomever he went with for manufacturing most definetly was able to provide the general yo smoothness which to me was my only concern.

I am curious to see what models get designed and rereleased in the coming years. We all have a brand or brands that just seem to speak to our needs. This one is mine, and here lately they have been somewhat going under the radar with their premium throws that are priced to sell.

It’s going to be a Royal pain in the butt tracking down one of each model across the board, but I’m not going to do it all it once, it’ll be gradual over the years. I’m just going to need to continue to go after the earlier US models first because they will become harder to acquire as time goes on.

Again, major thank yous on recommending the KLR and Majesty. I’ll track those down and I very much enjoy the shape of the M10. Those three will be next on the list whenever I’ve got the willingness to start hunting again. For now I’m gonna play this 5 star until I’m blue in the face, lol.

Finally got around to taking a pic of my current General-Yo collection. Really hoping I can get a Magnum again after I sold mine a few years ago.

Absolutely gorgeous collection with the cream of the crop.

Tell me the origin of the black and raw 5 star if time permits please.

And what is the bottom left?

There is a guy selling a Magnum for $500, if you want his info hit me up. I think it’s overpriced so I never pursued it.

And here is a pic of mine.

You have a really nice collection!

The raw/black 5 Star is a 1 of 2 I believe but I am not 100% sure, I would have to ask Ernie. It came from his personal collection.

The Entheos at the bottom was a custom electroplated job done by Jason Wong.

The bleached ano USA Hatrick is a 1 of 1 from Ernie’s personal collection. The work was done by Vendetta.

Gorgeous!

I sold my Torrent 2 but my goal is to get a OG Torrent. You got a beauty there!

Thank you! I had been looking for a Torrent for years when I had my old collection and just gave up. Once I took a break from throwing and came back the first yoyo that popped up was a Torrent funny enough and I took it as a sign I should get back into collecting again. I wish I still had some of my old General-Yos especially the Hatricks.

The ones you have are most definitely the ones to have.

I kinda want to land a purple mountain Majesty. The blue one I have is just stunning and purple is my favorite color

Yeah the purple mountain Majesty’s are a bit more difficult to track down, although I want to say I saw one up for sale a few months back
