IK on forums you can put your favorite yo-yos on your profile but it’s more fun to talk about it
Some things to talk about
What style do you like and why?
What brand standout for you and why?
What Yoyo do you enjoy and why?
I’ll go first I am pretty basic and do 1A some brand that standout to me is W1ld for their quality offset for picking boundaries and sengoku for innovation some yo-yos I like is the xenon prime because I do body tricks and the XP helps with comfort the adrenaline for its speed and ease to use and the anceps bloom for width and control and the fact it forgives and spin power and general power
I love that you can put your fave yoyo in your profile. A peasant I may be, I still love G2 for their aesthetic and QC, and my Banshee T52 has been a great intro to the brand.
I’m not the most experienced player, not by a long shot, but I do know the kind of feel I like in a yoyo, one that has great balance of feel and performance. I’m a bit laid back, so I like a yoyo that’s a bit slower, but won’t punish you for going a bit quicker. Kinda like a Corvette of a yoyo, and the G2 T52 is the only yoyo I’ve found that is worthy of that simile.
i like atmos generally. everything i’ve tried by them has been great.
i’ve tried three hydrangea throws so far and each ones is well designed and balanced in ways that make it greater than the sum of all parts if that makes sense.
the turning points i’ve tried are very well made and extremely stable. there’s a reason they’re so well regarded.
i like stable yoyos with long spin times, nto because i’m really good and need to crank out super long combos, but because i’m lazy and not very good and the longer it spins and the more stable it is, the more time and more tries i have to learn an element or trick before i have to do another breakaway
I think the Fuji is great. It’s smaller in diameter but still powerful. It’s fast and nimble and still has a decent floatiness.
The HAMR is titanium and so not inexpensive but it definitely isn’t hollow or cheap feeling. It’s heavily based on the Genesis and is very stable.
The Polaris and Solaris are highly regarded and I’ve only tried the Polaris but it was pretty good. I just had other to throws that clicked with me more so I let it go when I downsized.
Organics is kind of where they shine but it sounds like you’re not interested as much in that so I’ll leave those out
For me the interesting thing is how yoyos made from each brand feel a certain way. OD to me has the strongest feeling, from their binds to the general feel/zippiness of their yoyos. DS-61 is such a fun yoyo and my favorite from the brand so far. You do get the sport bike feeling when using it. Probably the smoothest brand out there (with G2 a close second), or maybe that’s nostalgia talking.
YYFr is such a good brand as well. Peregrine X feels like playing with silk or honey, it’s so smooth and my first dead silent bearing. Netrunner is great too, both insane performance yoyos that lean a bit more into the fun side than pure competitive.
For most consistent/natural feeling yoyo to land tricks are either the Horizon 2 or the Wilderness 7075, something about the dimensions and shape is perfect. They’re just too solid.
G2 is an interesting brand. Their yoyos (Council and Area 51) are the most fun throws I have, but I’m least consistent with landing tricks on the council. I’m also not a fan of the bearings or pads. Binds are a bit weaker/less consistent and the bearings lose spin time a tad faster. I will say the yoyos look good though! Best community I’ve found here on the forums though! Huge shoutout to everyone there.
UNPRLD Motif.
Something about it feels so right. I’m throwing around the W1LD Azure, Wilderness 7075, YYFR Ultracut, YYF Turbo Confusion, SPYY, Sense, all sorts of things and they each have something they shine in - but the Motif? Legitimately slept on so hard. It feels like I’m throwing a monocle, it’s seriously friendly to tech and floats through the air so smoothly, wraps up in a bind nice, the polished body is slippery on the string rather than the ano blast shimmery sound that pushes and tilts the yoyo when contacting a string off-axis. You won’t be doing many grinds or anything that requires a cup as it’s capped off on each side, but well worth the tradeoff for feel.
Give it a go if you ever get the opportunity or find one for cheap. I think people are undervaluing it
Really? While I never owned the cephas, I thought the fruitloop a solid throw. I Also played around with a Solaris for a couple months and enjoyed it as well. I also enjoy their cloudweaves, the micros.
Does anyone know what happened to PDX? I posted something in their regard but never got any info. Did they fold and I just didn’t hear? I really like my locust.
Picking a favorite yoyo is like picking a favorite child, it’s super difficult.
I’m a huge 2A player (mostly the looping part but I’m still practicing the 2A part) but I still dabble a little in 1A, l mostly play 0A.
For 2A l’ve never gotten many modern looping intell recently with my yyf loop 720s and classic loops. L like them but honestly my favorite looping yoyo is either the yomega fireball or the magicyoyo D3. I’m a huge transaxle player and my favorite transaxle is the yomega fireball, especially with the new raider/fireball mod pack from yye.
For 1A responsive my favorite is the yyf whip or yomega maverick. For 1A unresponsive it’s a tie between my plastic variant and my Duncan roadrunner
Hey nice! I’ve heard good things of the Hummingbird (ww that’s a pretty yoyo) and the Heron too. I’ll say the netrunner feels kind of floaty sometimes due to the hollow SS rings, really cool. I’d bet their monos are good too if you want something cheaper
Haha. lol. The hollow is exactly what both those were designed for. Pick literally any one of their other throws. Polaris gets the most string time for me, noma or Pomodoro when I’m feeling light.
I haven’t played a Fruitloop or Cephas, so I can’t comment there, but I’ll second the later half of this.
The Noma. is an extremely fun organic and SEs allows you to tune it a bit. A modern classic, for sure.
The Pomodoro is one of my favorites; very unique feeling.
I’ll also add that if you like organics, the Tide is amazing. Super premium feel and quite possibly my favorite titanium (and high up on my all-time favorites list).
To answer the original question:
I play mostly 1a.
I really like organics, as my style is laid back (I play mostly to relax, and have little time to practice, so my skills are pretty basic), but can appreciate the power and stability of more competition oriented throws (great for learning new/complicated tricks). There is just something about the feel of a good organic.
One Drop and G2 are definitely my top two brands, with Atmos not far behind.
OD just makes so many good throws and I really like that they design and machine in-house. I really think this allows them to fully realize their visions, and they’ve proven that they know a thing or two about what makes a good yoyo. I’m also a big fan of side effects (really neat to be able to customize look and feel of the throw and means you never have to worry about stripping axle threads).
G2 is awesome. Jake has a real talent for designing yoyos. On several occasions I’ve picked up a G2 thinking that, based on specs, I wouldn’t really vibe with it, but wanted to try it and figured I could always sell/trade it, only to be thoroughly impressed. His colorways are also some of the best I’ve seen anywhere.
Having said all that, I’d say that the OD Parlay is my favorite yoyo. I like the smaller size, weight, organic shape, and use of SEs. It’s not the best at anything (and as such, is not my EDC), but something about it just clicks with me. It just puts a smile on my face every time I throw it.
People see my tierlist as a fav yoyos post, but that’s not true
Atm the Savage and the Laze are the main yoyos I bring out and about with me, usually subbing in either the Asterisk or Forma as the 3rd, depending on my mood. Savage is an all-timer though.
But I adore the Code 2, Rally, Savage, SYFO, OG Replay, Leaf, Creep, Galaxy Diver, Anglam Pinnacle, GTR-JS, Wilderness, Halcyon, Rainier Boosted. Honestly, I could go on.
Despite my vocal criticisms of a bunch of yoyos, usually what I value is sentimentality, or just plain and simple, if I just randomly enjoyed something about it.
Code 2 and Rally are just mad sentimental; they’re what I always wanted when I was a kid who couldn’t afford nice yoyos. Savage has basically been a permanently reliable yoyo that I always enjoy. OG Replay I got as a gift and it’s mad sentimental, same with the G-Diver. The Creep and GTR-JS also sentimental because that was my first year at nationals (added benefit that the GTR-JS is just plainly a really good yoyo). The Leaf is also sentimental; it’s a yoyo that represents my work on the Chief documentary and my involvement in the community. SYFO and Anglam Pinnacle are the only yoyos I’ve bought, sold, and then re-bought because I missed them. They’re just comfy yoyos. Then the Halcyon, Wilderness, and Rainier Boosted are all just super good, and to me they represent forward-thinking in yoyo and progress, and I appreciate that.
