Seeing as the capital area yoyo club (CYYC) has been defunct for a while and DMV throw is kicking into gear I figured it’s time to start our own thread.
The DMV Throwers yoyo club serves anyone in the greater DC, Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland area. All ages and skill levels are welcome and we are inclusive of other skill toy interests.
Please give our new Facebook page a like to help support awareness of the club and/or follow if you want to know what the club is up to.
If you would like to join the club please join the group below.
If your in the DC metro area and are interested in meeting up please join us Sunday November 5th 2pm-4pm eastern at Quincy park Arlington VA
I’ll try to keep this thread up to date with club details and events but any input is more than welcome
Current interesting things we are working on are a new logo and banner picture and what our club acronym will be. Any outside thoughts or idea are always welcome.
DMV Throwers next two meetups are February 4th and March 3rd 2-4pm est at the Arlington public library in the Quincy room. February details are in the flyer below.
Last meet up was awesome. Met a legend this weekend ■■■■ Stohr (that YoYo guy). He also donated some spintastic gear to the club which promptly was used to give some walk ups to the club a new YoYo and hopefully a passion for YoYo. I need more yye cards so I can direct folks to learning and buying resources.
Got to see some of Ann bubak’s dad’s wood collection. The man’s a treasure and I value his participation in the club.
Both gentlemen used the graciously donated trompos from @Slestak75 to do an impromptu spin top workshop with some folks which was great fun.
We chatted about Nats and worlds, yo-yos and cool stuff we had on us. I 3d printed a bunch of knot picks and cw and gave away a bunch. I also strung up a bunch of yoyo with cw and let folks play them too their hearts content. A hyped up YYBC and 5a may. I also brought my mini/micro collection and folks got to try super hard yo-yos.
One kid got really into off string and if I had a second flight I would have gave him one but I want to keep the chance for folks to try off string at club so I’ll have to see about getting a few cheap beat up off string at some point.
I secured a dozen first base for the club and 6 of those will be donated to the Arlington central library to be checked out (so much paperwork and bureaucracy to add a new skew to the library system.)
I also started making stickers on the side and will be giving DMVT stickers out next meet up and at nats probably along with 3d printed knot picks with either YYBC or DMVT embossed on them.
Now to un knot all the yo-yos that where played with. So many yo-yos tangled together. Also I’ll have to take inventory I gave away so many yo-yos yesterday it was hard to keep track.
Two of the three coordinators have passed our local library background checks and vetting by the local library. (The third is pending a meeting to be scheduled but time is precious and fleeting)
Club onboarding as a program has kicked off which should add more local outreach and space availability for club meet ups.
Along with that I’m still working on getting approved for donating yo-yos to the library as items to check out (I’ve already purchased the yo-yos and carriers and string and such and reached out receiving trick cards from yye) I just need to get through the beurocracy that is the local library…
I’m also still working on finding venue space for a DC area YoYo contest next year and have made a contact for a local who has judging experience
