I think its worth learning full PLL, full OLL maybe, I still don’t know all my OLL’s but I average 16 seconds.
If you wanna learn Roux, then learn Roux. It’s up to you. Maybe learn both if you’re that interested.

With Roux, it’s important to have a good understanding of F2L-ish moves when pairing the corners and edges when constructing the 1x2x3 blocks. After that, it’s kinda like 2x2 OLL/PLL and M-slice-keyhole for the remaining edges in the middle slice and U face.
It’s a fun style that I never really got exceptional at, but I’ve applied a few of the elements of it to my current solve style.
If you ever want to solve in a crazy out-of-book style, I suggest learning any and all styles that you can, and cherrypicking what works. That’s pretty much what I’ve done.
I can do a 3x3x3 in about a minute using the beginner method.
thats about me.
I average 15ish with CFOP. Full PLL + 2look OLL. I average like 30 with roux. It’s fun to mess with, but I’m horrible at block building. CFCE is fun too…
For 2x2 I average mid 4. And big cubes I’m slow… Like 1:40 for 4x4, 3:00 for 5x5 and even worse for 6x6 and 7x7 lol
So to sum it up I’m like Pat with roux. I suck but it’s fun :D. I like CFCE because it’s kind of like roux at the end but still uses F2l, but CFOP is faster since I don’t know full CFCE. (Solves corners and then edges in one look each after f2l
Bigyoyo: I’d say go with CFOP. 2 Look LL is totally worth it. I know full PLL and like half of OLL. CFOP users are generally faster, and it’s easier to get help with. Only like 3 people in the world are sub 10 with roux, but hundreds are with CFOP. Oh one last thing I prefer white cubes. I use Wittwo v1, Zhanchi, and then Shengshou for the rest.
I have 2x2 and 3x3 averages up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxhoY6DN2TE 3x3 avg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJB_8oLh-DU 2x2 avg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw7oLShomWc pretty good 3x3 single for me
EDIT second last thing PB singles are: 2x2 .41 3x3 10.60 4x4 1:03 5x5: 2:34 and Idk for 6 and 7
I have a v cube 2x2 (avg 3.6 of 12 solves pb= 1.79), fangshi shuang ren 3x3 (avg 17.4 of 12 solves pb= 8.46), and a shengshou 4x4 (avg 1.13.25 of 12 solves pb= 1.02.34). I use full F2L, OLL, and PLL. I think F2L is really worth learning and even the beginner version is a useful tool even when mixing it with a beginner method for those of you with a 1 minute average. Also a bit of cube choice tips: 2x2 go with either the WitTwo v2 or the V Cube 2 both are smooth and give a good corner cut when turning fast. 3x3 go with a ZhanChi, Shuang Ren, or the HuanYing. 4x4= all out the shengshou! I’ve heard great things about the Lan Lan 4x4, and the Maru 4x4 currently holds the WR so go with one of those three.
Favorite Cube= 4x4
Wish I could solve= teraminx
Weilong is far better than haunying. I’m just wondering how exactly you got a sub 9 single when you average 17? I average 14 and my PB is 10.05 now… Oh and correction: The WR 3x3 is held with a zhanchi, WR 4x4 is held with a fully modded SS.
Anyway some updated stuff for me…
Now average sub 15, and very low 4 on 2x2.
14.06 ao5
11.20 single
Gonna bump it up… I got a couple 13 sec averages of 5 on video, and an 11.08 single! PB is now a full step 9.45.
13.69 Ao5
13.074 Ao5
Full step 11.08
I can solve a 3x3 in like… 2.5 mins.
Faster than 99% of the population!
I’ve gotten 2 nice sub 10s on video! And a nice average of 5 and 12.
9.55
9.78
12.52 ao5
13.694 Ao12
didn´t know they were so many cubers/yoyoers around^^ my 3x3 PB is 23.77
but i havent been cubing too much in the last weeks.
this is my little collection of awesome, i can solve everything in there
I get about 30-40 sec averages with my fredrick fusion method and my records like 25 secs
Back in the day I used to cube
I still have most of mine but I always lose my 3x3
I also have a bunch of other cube like toys like the megaminx
I can do it average 1:10, but my record’s 0:57 (not a world record :(, but okay). I just started learning roux.
Sweet! Roux will take you all the way to sub 10 for sure
The hardest part for me are the two 123 blocks; i can do them in minimal moves, but not quickly. One problem with that i think is just the studying - I can only study the first two cubes and sometimes the third ( I start with the back left edge and bottom corner). Any tips?
Well, I use CFOP, but the similar step to that for me is the cross. The fact that you can build the block fairly optimally, is a very good thing. That means that with some practice you’ll just learn to see it faster. Where you’re at, you don’t need to plan the second block in inspection. Hope that helps!
So in roux, do you plan the whole first block and then do the second block from where you are, or do you plan only part of the first block?
Just set personal best to 52 secs ( I got to skip the last two steps in roux ).
For your current level, planning a whole block is probably too much right now. If you can plan part of the first block, that’s probably good.
