contacting RecRev?!

Let me summarize my feelings on this… bite me. Agism is -ridiculous- and insulting to people who are perfectly capable of being responsible, trustworthy, and just all around aren’t lying asshats.

I started a yoyo company before I was 18… I’ve run it (mostly as a hobby admittedly) for 10 years now. Never did I screw retailers or go out of my way to abuse my customers. Did I make mistakes? absolutely… but I did what I could to fix them. Outside of yo-yos, I have 2 other businesses that I run myself… both of which I started when I was in my early 20s.

The ‘he’s a kid’ thing is a copout… it’s making an excuse for inexcusable behavior. This is also all ignoring the fact that he isn’t a kid anymore, he’s an adult.

Wow, I’ve never caused a heart attack on a fellow forum member with a post of mine before. Sorry for that…

But seriously, I agree with what you said: Alex/RecRev should and must start communicating on this sooner than later. I know for a fact that Alex is aware of the situation because

  • Anthony talked to Alex about it
  • modman10 asked about it at least twice during a yoyo meeting, the last being last weekend
  • my initial complaining post on their facebook page got deleted so it must have registered with someone

There are several reasons why I haven’t gotten those yoyos and there are likewise several ways to handle and resolve this. A professional business owner will try to pursue one of those ways. Instead, Mr. Kim does nothing, which is unacceptable and very unprofessional.

Don’t get me wrong, I am quite upset that I don’t get any direct responds from Alex despite my best efforts. The big distance between us limit my possibilities, however. That is pretty frustrating, but I’m sure that eventually this will get resolved.

I would fully agree that he’s no longer a kid, and that excuse is no longer valid.

…but I do think there’s a little something to be said about this “agism” thing. It’s not “agism” to understand that kids around 15 and 16 do not have adult brains. They don’t have the capacity, no matter how smart they think they are, to properly gauge cause and effect the way an adult would. They just don’t. Brain development is still happening into the early 20’s.

This is not an excuse for setting out to be a liar, cheater, or swindler. But it is one part of the explanation for why someone at that age would be less likely to run an honest business than an older person. They just don’t have the ability to empathize the way you and I can…yet.

Just curious…but what makes you sure of that? :-\

Yup. Because telling us “your an idiot and don’t know anything” will TOTALLY help us in the long run. (Yes, I know those weren’t your exact words).

I think this thread has outlived its usefulness.

There’s an issue, we’re now aware of it, especially those of us who were up until now previously unaware of it.

Avoid problems: buy from them only direct at contests and via retailers who have them in hand.

If you want to throw in the Towel before the kid in Germany gets his yoyos or his money back, than you have outlived your ‘usefulness’ in this thread.

Your, Avoid problems statement in already a well understood fact, to anybody that has followed even a few pages of this thread.

Remember Chris, you are just another poster. You are not a Moderator.

If you have some ‘pull’ with the Mods, lock the thread, than you don’t have to whine about it.

Or, ya know, don’t support lowlife thieves when there’s 50+ other companies who make as good, most better, yoyos and are run by great people.

It’s not exactly fair to say most companies make better yoyos… he makes great throws. This is pretty undeniable. It’s just him that’s the problem.

But minus the problem (Alex Kim) and recrev ceases to be and those good throws are no longer available.

I’m not whining. I just posted my final view on the topic and moved on. I got better things to do. I find we gotta “beat a dead horse” around here for people to do simple things like get a clue or use a search engine.

I suppose the next step is to send everyone a private message saying “First pants, THEN your shoes” as a reminder of how to get stuff done in the morning.

Here’s a tip Smarty ‘pants’. You can thank me at Nats in a few weeks. You can count on me looking for you.

Ok, Chris, I am going to run this by you slow… First it’s Socks, then Pants and then shoes, etc.

And as far as the 'pants, then shoes method, this is how that works. 1st find Alex Kim. Hopefully he is wearing pants. 2nd, slam your shoe repeatedly into his pants and kick his A… All the way down to the nearest Post Office. 3rd, challenge him to Mail out the yoyos he has Taken money for and NEVER sent.
…so in that possible scenario, your pants first, shoes second is the Ticket.

You’ll be looking for me? Cool. I am actually looking forward to meeting you. I’ll try to be easy to spot.

Many companies make great throws. Nowadays if I’m paying more than $90 for a yoyo the very least I expect is for it to be great. There are many companies that make ‘great’ throws that have fantastic customer service and an active interest and presence in the community.

Look at G2 Jake for instance, he bases his throws, names and colourways around the input and desires of the community and even has his own “ask G2 Jake” thread that he regularly posts in.

Caribou Chris also maintains a presence on these forums, cares about his customers and reputation and in my experience answers emails quickly and thoroughly. These are the kind of manufacturers that I want to support.

A little update on my personal situation: yesterday evening I got a message from Anthony via facebook informing me that a package is now on its way to me. He in turn got this information from Alex. No direct contact so far but as long as I get the yoyos eventually I don’t need to be in direct contact with him.

As always, I’ll keep you updated about the situation as it unfolds.

But he had no problem maintaining direct contact when he was getting you to send him money ::slight_smile:

And did Alex include some bonus yo-yos or cash? Because waiting three months for one packgare really deserve some apology from him.

When similiar topics appear, there are always some people who disappoint me. There is known liar and possibly thief, not finishing business with both person and shops. And still there are some people defending him, due to age, their relationship with him or just because they like his product. In any other market, company like RecRev would go bankrupt long time ago, because normal people with morality dont want to support these kind of people by buying their product(doesnt matter if directly or through shops).

this is all I know as of right now. As mentioned, I’ll keep you updated on when and how the package arrives.

How bizarre. Seriously. Take 2 frickin’ minutes to write an apology to someone clarifying the situation and trying to make it up, that’s all it takes, can’t decide if he’s mind numbingly lazy, completely apathetic, or at this point just too cowardly and embarrassed to directly contact you. Good luck, and keep us updated.
