Any knife guys?

Keep mine in the basement of the Alamo next to my bike.

Closest I’ve gotten to the legendary Bob Loveless is being friends with A.G. Russell before he passed away and seeing some of his Loveless collection.

I bet you have some fun memories.

He was another one of the greats. I remember when he came out with the sting back in the 70s. Man, Good times. Bob was the first person I ever saw with a sub hilt fighter in a leather shoulder holster. I was all about getting a shoulder holster for my knife after that. I still carry shoulder even today. Thanks Bob!!! That shoulder trick saved me once or twice.

Very cool.

A.G. Had loads of stories about Bob. I got to hang out with him, Goldie and brother for a week in 2012.

I don’t shoulder carry. But it is a very functional way to carry a bigger knife for sure.

I’ve been lucky enough to never need to use a knife I self defense.

Excellent. I’ve had a slightly different life.

I will remember not to cross you anytime soon.

You are dangerous people!
These are my French friends … from above:

  • Opinel N. 13 “Le Géant” first series (early 1980s), also called “la main gantée de noire” with cherry wood handle, blade length 22.5 cm in stainless steel, total length 50.5 cm when open, patent locking system of the blade only when open (Virobloc)
  • Opinel N. 13 “Le Géant” of current production with beech wood handle, same size as the brother but with double locking system of the blade (always in stainless steel), both open and closed
  • Opinel N. 12 12.5 cm blade in stainless steel, total length from open 28.5 cm, olive wood handle made by me, on the lathe and then finished by hand

The Project Two JMF and the hand are used to give a reference of the measures …

Those Propers are great!

I went a little nuts the past couple weeks and bought 2 of my grail knives, and one other cool knife.

I have one other high end knife I’d like to get, but it’s going to be awhile.

I was able to find the photos of when a few years ago I made the same one for a gift that a dear friend of mine wanted to give his dad.

That’s some nice Olivewood Doc, I’ve been planning on re-handling my own Opinel at some point in time. No lathe though so I’ll have to figure out some other way.

Also, those Opinels are just a teensy big bigger than the one I’ve got.

The old one belonged to my great grandfather during WW1. The other one I got at a flea market for $10 lol. I’m pretty sure it’s a cheap knockoff, but it does the job. It even has a string cutter. I also used to have a couple of balisongs, but they were cheap and the handle on both of them broke  I’m thinking about picking up a trainer.

Almost forgot about these guys… another old war knife that I got from my father-in-law. Not really sure about it’s origins.

How do y’all feel about maces? :joy:

When I went to office work I carried the Bud Nealy system (MCS iirc). I had a couple models and the duo folder set he did with Allen Elishewitz. It wasn’t the greatest carry system imho, but it did the job. Boker did a model of his with a skeletonized handle that was nice.

Still have Bob’s book, How to make Knives. Jon Fitch made a favorite bowie and fighter years ago. I liked Jerry Hossom’s work too. Spyderco did a couple models of Jerry’s. Made by Fox in Italy I believe and well made. I think that’s the larger one in a photo with a bunch above. Loved the belly on his blades. They were true slicers. Many of the thick folders and ‘combat’ looking blades have a terrible push out for slicing moves without a power assist. The tapering on Jerry’s would just slice and dig in as push out.

Murray Carter makes some great kitchen knives. I had a couple by him while he was still in Japan. He cake walked his ABS - JS and MS in the same weekend when he moved back to the US.
I chipped the tip off one in the sink one night. Sold them both afterwards as punishment for my inattention. It seared the truth of this saying into me after realizing what I’d done.
“We are not punished for our anger, we are punished by it” - Buddha

The Pakal design and a cut out by PJ and myself (left). He ground up a proto or two but got sick. Ended up keeping several peoples money too I believe. Unfortunately a too common theme for knife makers who start taking years of pre-order payments and get hurt or sick.
The other is just a drawing of one I did as the tip was a bit too swept on the proto imho.
