Sad to say I lost this guy last week. Sadder to find out that a new one cost $60. That’s 3 times more than I bought it for. :disappointed:

Sorry to necro this; but I just saw it. Is this really a thing? I have always been taught that you NEVER try to attack from above when fighting with a knife. Have I been led astray? What purpose does an overhand grip serve when trying to be defensive?

I’ve been taught to never fight with a knife.

There are more knife ‘styles’ than knife companies probably. :joy:

Pakal or Pikal is a Filipino style meaning ‘to rip or tear’. The blade faces inward. To majorly simply it is for defense by holding your space. Waiting for any attack to enter your personal space/zone. Strikes can still be up or down or side and pull hard to your center. Don’t over extend in this style. This will split feet and hands easily.
At blade show decades ago there were Filipino demonstrators showing this style and also calling it ‘mantis’ iirc. It was a fun and interesting style to train. So much so I was designing a pakal knife with Peter Jensen from Australia after buying his EVO survival knife and camping with it for a while. I’ll try to find the drawings and cut outs and post them.
This is Spyderco’s folder.

Many felt Bram Franks bio-mechanical style was useless/wrong. Why fight non-letal with a knife? But the purpose was for disabling and getting away alive, not necessarily non-lethal. It was based on attackers who were drugged up and able to progress through other styles lethal strikes. It’s not like the movies, even lethal strikes can take a deadly 20-30 seconds before they drop.

Best not too. Run. Like the old saying goes, the loser of knife fight dies in the street. The winner dies in the hospital.

I’m surprised no one posted a balisong.

All of my EDC stuff are “skill toys” Spin pens, zippo tricks, flipping balisongs, and throwing the yo.

I didn’t know these were a thing. Cool.

Usually people make their own, or now you can even buy specific ones made for spinning with more weight on the ends of each pen. I just carry a normal one for EDC.

That’s too bad. I was taught by the Army and then Robert W loveless. He lived right up the road, who knew?
Never bring a gun to a knife fight, just saying.

That’s a nice kershaw. I’ve got bear and sons. They never leave the house.

Man I miss my collection. But it did help me build my yo-yo collection so I can’t complain haha. Almost got one of these in a trade.

Thanks! It’s a great knife in general, just a bonus it’s a balisong. I take this one out or trainers (no live blades) if I’m in a public area.

Remember getting this like it was yesterday. Flew down to Orlando when they held the big knife show there. Ordered it from Charlie Dake and his wife. But shows how far we’ve regressed, I walked on the plane with a case of knives and didn’t even get a second look.

All the killer kitchen knives I own I got from trading YoYos. Do a search. I still have great stuff but I’m down a; Mg, Sov, BvM, that was my Kramer 10” Damascus; then it was my MechaBapezilla for my Kramer 10” Meji; then I traded @FourCorner his purple Ti Peak for a 9.5” Miyabi Black. Zero regrets all great trades.

My one that got away  if anyone sees this out for sale or trade, I need it back haha. Full custom from the legendary Warren Osborne, made back some time in the 80’s. I was a fool for selling. But college was expensive.

True. I prefer a Phased Plasma rifle in the 40-watt range.
