Anti-yo worth it? Discussion

ok, i’ll give another example of what i believe is another undervalued yoyo, at times, because of its ‘flaws’ - the second generation peak i mentioned earlier.

the second generation peak is derided and snubbed because of “peak vibe”, devalued and not as sought after because of this… DESPITE all of the effort went into trying to make ‘the peak’ right. from the first dremeling of the flow groove, to messing with different machine shops, adjusting to the limits of the machine shops, changing anodizers, paint, airbrush, yadda yadda… all of that, including what was essentially the groundbreaking story behind many other innovations and highly sought after pieces that came from the CLYW company, is completely forgotten and washed away by the term ‘peak vibe’…

so i have these 2 peaks, beautiful and striking ano on both - especially for those pieces - warm (i cannot explain this ‘warmth’, like playing an analog record), amazing pieces of yoyo, pop culture, and clyw history. these pieces are a labor of love, and triumph. i’ll take peak vibe all day, then all the way to the bank in 10 years  if i want

i am very happy with my peaks. as a matter of fact, i’d probably get other 2nd gen peaks, like a hulk smash or whatever… i’m not a vibe snob as you know. but, it wouldn’t make sense to me to chase a painted peak… chipping and all that nonsense you can’t play it… and a third gen, ok, sure…

look at these two beauties!!! pieces of cultural and historical, yoyo, pop culture (just like antiyo buddy) history… boohoo, frickin peak vibe… hahahahahha… i’d take these playable, vibey piecies over a painted turd any day

I’m looking for another BSP…

I stay away from Pee-town.

As soon as you step out of the car, you know urine trouble.

It’s a friendly place, though. Everybody makes you feel like #1.

Crazy how an anti-yo thread attracts all the old forum folks

I spend a lot of time at Rock a way beach. It’s my favorite and no one pisses on my parade. Word to your mother.

Wait up. Let’s not confuse the waters
That of Peak is not the same case as Anti-yo, a well-designed yoyo (e.g. correct tolerances) but which has vibrations due to accidental processing causes is one thing, a yoyo that is born with a design error that is impossible to miss (because It is impossible not to notice the fact that the promo prototype that comes out of the machine, swallows the string in the bearing seat) and in any case sends 800 shells into production … it’s another matter entirely!
And speaking of art, I believe you see what the anodization of the 28stories 2nd run is! Pure art, not two anonymous solid colors like those of Bapezzilla, or Eetsit, or Flusc or that seem to be those of a low-cost yoyo of Busine$$.
I have a Grezzly Bear Clown Town 1st run, as you know … you should see it in real life to understand what I’m talking about, in that corolway you will find everything that would have been the story of the subsequent CLYW models in terms of anodizing, splashes, acid washes, maple drip, spercles … only for that should be looked for further for the beauty of the colors combined together and complexity of the coloring process …
We are only 11 people to have the privilege of appreciate its beauty from life, I know what I’m talking about, I have it now in my hands …
I am therefore fully aware of his artistic and historical value, despite this, I will never accept, even if I have them in your pocket, to spend $ 400 for him, for no reason in the world … just for consistency.

I often see Anti-Yos described as “unique”. Kinda an odd description of a yoyo’s performance. In my opinion, if that’s the justification behind their insane price, then they are indeed overrated. It’s fine to buy a yoyo based on the history and collectibility but I would say no one is really missing out on anything having never played one.

“art” doesn’t need to be complex to be valued, or to hold “monetary value” to some… here are some simple examples that rake in absurd amounts of money… most not worth the paper (or whatever medium) they are printed on… glorified, hyped nonsense
