Anti-yo worth it? Discussion

I own an Optimally Geared YWET and recently picked up the YWETI by RSO because of how much I liked the YWET. It’s probably my favorite shaped yoyo, not too wide and also not too thin with a nice organic shape. I’ve thrown it every day since getting it.

I’ve not tried any other Antiyo, but because of how much I like the YWETS, I’d be inclined to try more.

I think @nightshadow values performance, and consistently values performance. I respect that.

Personally I got tired of chasing the ultimate performance yoyo, especially now that I have the TiKrown.

The variety of performance that comes from different yoyo shapes and weight distribution, albeit reduce the overall performance that @nightshadow is after , but for people like me they add variety to the throwing experience. The Masamini and the Bakemono are good examples.

@Drakkar who is certainly not a stranger to high performing yoyos has said that his favourite Turning Point is the Sancti Grail, and his favourite Sengoku is the Bakemono.

These choices reflect giving preference to factors beyond pure performance and favour other factors that make throwing enjoyable.

This conversation can be applied to many collectibles. The $70 million 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO for example. Totally not worth it to me, but it was to somebody.

I feel the same way about anti-yo at current prices, but…

Ive owned plenty of them. They are great players. some models more than others.
I look at yoyos like sports cars. They are all different. They all have strong and weak points. Everyone has different tastes in what they like. Some people love the look. Some like the speed. Some like the feel.
…but one thing we can agree on, they are way cheaper so I can buy a bunch of them!!!

The bapezilla was my first metal yoyo I bought back in 2006 and it holds a special place in my heart but it’s not worth it at current prices. Unfortunately all antiyo throws that were made by Kiya and Sonny had issues. It was either string slippage, string cutting, or incorrect machining. In my opinion it’s only worth it to buy one of the antiyo designed throws that were a collaboration with another company.

Has anybody else noticed the rising value of RSO yoyos since he’s done the anti-yo and ILYY colabs? It used to be relatively easy to find other RSO for sale well below retail. Smart marketing move, and its nice to buy variations on classics with some of the flaws removed. For instance I really didn’t care for the ywet, but I like static’s optimally geared ywet and the RSO yweti. Both seem to have the heart of the original without the annoyances.

i have been watching this keenly, though the tk one is still a head scratcher for me  personally, i don’t see much of a crossover between the (high end) ti and tk market. titanium is niche, tk is niche, responsives are niche… luftverk didn’t sell out all the daytona sb right away and that’s their thing…

not saying it’s a bad idea. this could do well for both companies - particularly tk… again, just not seeing the crossover

Just for the record I don’t collect YoYos. I play with them. Everything in my case is used on a daily basis even the AntiYo. They wouldn’t be in the case if they couldn’t hold there own. But that’s just me. I don’t have displayed throws on the wall that never get thrown. I carry an og Bape when it comes up on the rotation or when I’m going out. But again that’s just me.

Yep. What will I pay??? That’s the question.

To be fair, RSO sold out on the Spaceship and the TiBowl. I am not saying that it didn’t help to team up with Anti-yo, but Elvin established himself as a designer before the co-labs.

It’s an odd crossover, I guess he wants to have a shot at the high wall responsive segment. At the price it will likely go for its going to be off the menu for me unless he really changes it up. But then its not really an sb2 anymore. We’ll see soon enough.

Whoever said Kiya and Sonny were Humans?

For sure, I’m not disputing that at all. I’ve been watching RSO all along, I bought a spaceship when it dropped, great yoyo. I’m also noticing that the antiyo and ILYY tie ins has seemed to broaden the number of people who are willing to spend on one of his yoyos.

Never tried an anti-yo. I dont really see a need to either. Im going to assume that people that enjoy and collect them feel that same sense of nostalgia, yoyo history, and fun that I do with my general yo collection.
