I wouldn’t mind hearing a bit more about the Hornets. I’m debating getting a pair at a meet on Saturday since i get 25% off everything in the place, so it drops that price down to silly cheap.
I have the Unleashed and I’m pleased with them. I have the Loop 1080’s and I find my play style doesn’t match the more aggressive nature of them, but at the same time, these are a fantastic player. They are much better than the Loop 900’s. The Loop 720’s are kinda goofy but good due to the string response.
I have other loopers: 808s, 360’s, Raiders, Raider EX and more. Unleashed are my current preference.
So, I just want to hear more about the Hornets. I’m not necessarily looking to replace anything, but I am more interested in seeing if it’s worth buying a pair.
Overall, I feel the only thing that the hornets lack is a sense of fullness during wraps and loops. They are fine during hops, but when wrapping or looping, they feel empty, like there is a part missing in the body. Otherwise, they are fantastic when modded.
I think I’ll go ahead and pass on the Hornets for a bit then. I enjoy the Unleashed and Loop 1080’s, I’ll just stay with those as my primaries for the time being.
So glad you got yourself two pairs. Looks like you’re super serious about taking up 2A!
Don’t give up. It takes forever to learn, but the mastery of 2 yoyo is amazing :]
So! What are you working on now?
As for me, I’ve been practicing my double loops and milk the cows. I’ve also been trying to master my outside loops and outside hops. Anything that feels nice. I also got in the habit of changing my string every 30 minutes. It feels good to have fresh string every time. :]
I’ve been watching the “So You Think You Can Yo-Yo” 2A instructional DVD by Joseph Harris and Jennifer Baybrook lately. It’s stuff I already know [and available in YYE for free] (besides the wraps lolol) but Joseph and Jennifer give out amazing tips on how to make your loops cleaner. Those are types of tips that Andre’s tutorials don’t have.
One tip I can give out from the DVD [and Joseph told me himself] was to alternate your hands to get used to the whole two-handed thing.
-Left hand forward pass, right hand forward pass. Repeat for how long you want but the alternating needs to be faster each time.
-Then one loop on each hand. Repeat
-Two loops on each hand. Repeat.
Do as many loops as you can in each hand in an alternate fashion
-If you feel comfortable, let both your hands do its thing.
You can also do the same with outside loops. The 1o’clock/11o’clock tilt still applies to those too.
I got my modded raiders from tyler too, and they are great! Alot better than my bumblebee and hyperwarp. I have yet to be able to do two handed looping, but i got my high score of 96 inside right handed loops.
Yoyo on the right tilts slightly to the right in like 1 o’clock if the clock is in front of you, and 11 o’clock for your left yoyo. Loops are straight, but the yoyo tilts. In my opinion this is the most efficient, less friction, and most natural way of looping.
watch:
Ahh, so what he was saying was… even on (right handed) outside loops, I still tilt the yoyo to 1 o’clock. Gotcha. That was a good tip, because my outside loops are totally off! Working on fixing them now.
While the topic is brought up, whenever I say “practice only good loops” [and I repeat myself way too many times] I mean practice the loops/hops with that 1/11o’clock tilt.
11oclock on left hand, 1oclock on right.
The tilt is more on efficiency and it gives the least resistance while looping. You probably notice that if you try looping when the yoyo is completely straight it’s too difficult. Tilt is the way. Too much tilt is bad though.
The only time you probably want your yoyo to be completely straight is when you’re working on planet hops where the yoyo does not flip on each repetition.
Almost wish it had the spiraly design without the huge LP. If the LP was much smaller, I think cosmetically it would look awesome… probably as awesome as it plays lol.
Or at least the LP logo would’ve been a tad bit smaller to emphasize the oval lines that symbolize the looping part.
Thanks, Snafu! If you find some extra time, you can also cruise through the 25 pages. I still haven’t gone through the best posts in this thread to include on the first page so reading through this huge mess might be good for now.
I don’t have a pair of Vortex, but azunyan does. He told me that they play amazing but it’s very prone to cracking. Therefore, it’s only recommended for players who at least have mastered the basic two-handed tricks that the yoyos don’t hit each other.
