I’d like to try to fill in the space under that nasty sharp rim with something to make it more solid/safe. Not sure what would be a good kind of material, though.
Translation:
Just buy a WHIP and end your suffering!
I’m cleaning the bearings in the pair I purchased. If I feed adventurous, I’ll try packing modeling clay and baking that into the rolled rims for more weight. However, that seems like too much effort. I’m gonna stop at bearing cleaning. I might see about getting a wider bearing with the same specs, but that also feels like too much effort.
Get yourself to the nearest Dollar Tree. I was surprised the one nearest to me had them in stock. I might pick up a bunch more, clean out the bearings, put a 100% poly string on them and then give them to those little brats who keep saying “Give me a yoyo”.
At the same time, after I clean the bearings in the test pair I have, I’ll know more. Even at a dollar, you don’t want to hand out yoyos that simply can’t perform at all. If they can get started with them, then OK, that’s great.
I think most modders know some basics of business.
Time = Money.
For a dollar, to probably transform these stamped tin yoyos into something that sucks less, well, it just seems to be a heck of lot less frustrating and more time efficient to just get a Duncan Butterfly XT or a Classic or a Whip.
Then again, what do I know? I am NOT a modder, nor will I ever be. I mean, unless you consider swapping bearings, cleaning and treating bearings and using flowable silicone to be modding, I am otherwise just a guy doing maintenance and upkeep on my yoyos.
I guess for someone starting in modding and wants to have some practice stock on the cheap, these $1 throws would suffice for some applications, but not a whole lot.
Please don’t inject negativity into what you implied was negativity.
Anyhow, I got bearings soaking in acetone. I should take them out before the plastic cage melts…
And you’re acting like you’re above him, mocking him, and being an overall instigator.
Limited Edition Dollar Tree throw. Neon green and fluorescent orange.

I went to the dollar tree and picked up five… They surprised me in the fact they actually work. I think if I added some extra weight onto the rims this 1$ yoyo would work quite nicely
Protip: They’re not aluminum.
What? The Dollar Tree lied? How could they do this to us?!?!
^ Ino right.
But…but… but… its high quality new good chinese product
Only fully functional $1 yoyos. Hmm… do we really need .0001 tolerances on our toys?
I should send them out and see if the paint is lead-based!
Also check for traces of cyanide, gasoline, and various radioactive rare-earth metals.
Yeah! I need to get to Dollar Tree tomorrow.
Over on FB they are buying them by the truck load!
If they aren’t metal than what are they?
They are metal. Stamped steel or tin.
Here’s one I modded to fit a Size C bearing.
