YYJ AXIOM Review

The YYJ AXIOM:

Introduction:

This is a review for the YoYoJam AXIOM. It was the first yoyojam yoyo to feature the silicone response system for tight binds, and long sleep times. It is also one of the few all metal yoyojam yoyo (the meteor being another). It has an all aluminum, undersized body. My first observations of this yoyo were it’s very small size and very light weight. The pictures on this site seemed to make this yoyo seem bigger than what it really is. So if you like light weight, small yoyos, you will probably enjoy this alot. A good size reference for its diameter is about the size of the bottom of a small bottle of water. It is also very roundish. Bottom line, this yoyo is pretty much like a smaller version of the YYJ New Breed.

Specs:

Diameter: 1.96"
Width: 1.62"
Gap: Normal; Wide
Weight: 65g
Response: Silicone (flush)
Bearing: Size C (regular yoyojam speed bearing)
Shape: Rounded Butterfly

Pros about this yoyo:

  • Very small (Great pocket yoyo).
  • Grinds very well (just like most all metals).
  • Sleeps very long.
  • Very floaty. So if you like heavy yoyos, DON’T BUY THIS.
  • Easy thumb grinds.
  • Smooth.
  • Wide gap. Thus, easy to land the yoyo on the string
  • Very stable.
  • Because of it’s light weight, the string doesn’t wear out as fast as it would if you were using a Dark Magic or Black Knight.

Cons about this yoyo:

  • EXPENSIVE!! ($72.25). If this yoyo was just a little cheaper, I think more people would buy it. Personally, I think it was worth every penny!
  • The paint on it wears away a little bit after awhile.
  • You have to keep replacing the silicone with either flowable or the already made YYJ silicone o-rings you can buy here at YYE.
  • Floaty. (I put this in both because it depends on your preferences).
  • Small. (Again, I put this in both because it depends on your preferences).
  • It dings very easily. In other words, it’s not the most durable yoyo out there.
  • I have experinced some occasional slippy binds because of the wide gap.

Should I? Or shouldn’t I?

  • Do you primarily throw 1A? [Y or N]
  • Do you like small yoyos? [Y or N]
  • Do you like very round edges? [Y or N]
  • Do you like floaty; light weight yoyos? [Y or N]
  • Do you like to grind often? [Y or N]
  • Do you like silicone response? [Y or N]
  • Do you like wide gaps? [Y or N]

The more questions you said “yes” to, the more you will like this yoyo.

Inside: I tried to give you guys a detailed picture of the inside of this yoyo. NOTE: I’m not sure if this is supposed to happen, but MY axle comes out…

Gap: In this picture, I hope to show you this yoyo’s wide gap and rounded inside. NOTE: I installed the KonKave bearing myself, It originally came with a regular C sized speed bearing.

Conclusion:

This yoyo is very smooth and very nice. It sleeps for a very long time, it is very good at grinds and is my smoothest yoyo I own. I’m very happy I have one. Definatly MY first choice in metals. It works even better with a KK bearing installed (in my opinion). This yoyo isn’t very popular. I’m not sure why. I belive it deserves more popularity than what it currently has. When all is said and done, If I could define a “perfect yoyo” I’d say this is pretty much it! Well done YoYoJam!

My overall score is 9.5/10- Incredible!

i like i but as you said its a very light yoyo good review

Some more feedback would be nice guys… ;D

Not a bad review. I’d cut out that part about what styles it is good for, being that you throw only 1A. Other than that, pretty good

It was a great review.
However, just some things to note, you should only be reviewing the styles that you have tried, as you would not be able to give a accurate review on how it plays in styles that you have not tried. Secondly, you should not really use the points system, seeing that it is based on preferences.
Other than that, this is a nice review. It is very detailed and the pictures were helpful.

OK. I cut out the part about the different styles ratings. You do have a point about that. I only throw 1A (primarily) and 2A. Thanks for the feedback guys!

did u silicone that your self becuse its black or is it just a diffrent type of pad
my axiom has wight silicone

No,
My Axiom came with black silicone in it like that; although I’m not sure why. It’s the only YYJ yoyo I own with black silicone rings.

You just repeated what I said…

I was just expressing my sincere opinions on the review. Besides, I also mentioned other points that you did not mention. If you want to claim credit for what you mentioned first, I apologise. I hope I did not offend you. :-[

Great review! You are right, it is very small and the paint on it does wear off.

They initially came w/white rings. Newer ones are black.

They’re anodized, not painted.

Alright explain to me how the weight of the yoyo affects how fast it wears out strings?

If the yoyo isn’t as heavy, the string won’t wear out as fast. With my axiom, I went 3 DAYS with the same string. When I use my DM, I have to replace it EVERY DAY.

That doesn’t mean it’s the weight of the yoyo at all.

Well, sorry-

My bad…

…I’d just thought “what else could it be?”

If it’s a first gen DM, it’s probably due to the starburst response.
