I learnt 4A basics on a Freehand. Unresponsive enough to pull off pretty much any 1A trick (if you play cleanly), and responsive enough to be able to do a 4A bind.
Zan Navi and Throw Monkey were both designed with 1A, 4A and 5A in mind.

It can have offstring rims and 1a rims
The pocket change is just pain bad.
Halo and Huyabusa are my favorites for both.
