YoYoRecreation Appreciation Thread

Where are you at? Maybe someone at your local meet has one, and could have you try it out.
Then you could compare side by side if he/she has a Sleipnir.

I’m in northern VA. I got this at PA states in a trade, and yomagic thought it was real because the engravings looked crisp.

In his defense, the one you have is a well done copy. I had a copy before that had very sloppy logoing, but it played well.

AzrinRain you’re right, it is heavier, I think by at least 5 grams or so.

I’ll weigh it tomorrow. What is the weight of the legit?

Sleipnir weighs 65.0g.

I hate to say it, but unfortunately your sleipnir is a fake. I had an authentic Red “Take That” sleipnir and the engraving on yours are not as sharp as the real ones.

I have an authentic “Take That” Sleipnir to compare. The engravings on the “Take That” look the same. What does not look the same is the engraving along the top. My Sleipnir has small, crisp engraving and there is a marked difference between the font used for the “yoyorecreation Sleipnir”. On mine, the word Sleipnir is in bold, the “yoyorecreation” is not:

       yoyorecreation Sleipnir

If you look at the blue photo vs. the red one you might notice the same. The engraving on the blue one looks like mine. The word “Sleipnir” is slightly more bold than the “yoyorecreation” next to it.

Here’s a little something for laughs.
I visited you-know-who’s site and they’re selling foodies!

Ok, here we go.
My apologies in advance if my images are not sharp enough.
Taken with an iPhone 4s.

This is an overall shot of the engraving.

The bottom half of it.

And the bearing seat.

I could also confirm that there is indeed no hex hole on the axle.
Hope this helps further.

The guy got the YoYo in a trade. He warned me he hadn’t gotten authenticated so I took the risk. Is there a weight difference between the fake and legit?

Yea a legit Sleipner is 65 grams and a fake is around 70 I believe.

Okay the scale puts it around 63/64 without a string. My scale rounds to the nearest gram. Truthfully I am very stuck right now. Also, I got a decent pic of the Sleipnir and yoyorecreation.

From this angle, it looks how others have described a legitimate one–‘Sleipnir’ seems to be bolder in comparison to ‘yoyorecreation’.

To me, it looks like a fake. Having owned a counterfeit ‘Take That’ Sleipnir, all signs point to fraud.

Not sure about the weight, though. I distinctly remember mine playing quite light - no where near 70g.

Rub your nail on the ano. Fakes have very very very slight machining ridges and scratching your nail in a certain direction sounds similar to doing the same with a vinyl record.

The bearing seat should also be tight as sin.

The bearing is a little tight, but I can get it out with my finger. The ano is gone on one bearing post. I can see the lines, but can’t feel them.

No chips near the bearing seat, fake. End.

I’ve heard not all legit ones have the chip. Is this true?

I’ve had plenty of YYR that don’t have chip near the bearing seat. Not always the best indicator.

I’ve owned 8 Sleipnirs, including the red Take That edition, they all had the chips. I don’t know about the latest runs though
