Oh com on’ Stickman! I know and understand everything you said BUT you have to choose what you think is the best yoyo. I know some will do this or that better than others or are the best at this or that…but if you had to say one was the best which would it be?
I too buy Tis just because I collect Tis but for me so far the Dazzler just happens to be my favorite. I throw the yoyo extremely hard on every throw so think my first impression on the Draupnir will be a lot different than Robs. The Draupnir still hasn’t made it to me even though I ordered the same time as Rob so don’t know what the deal is with that. We ordered the Dazzler at the same time and recieved it on the same day as well. Oh well…idk
I am in the middle of writing up a thread about all the qualities to look for in a throw and how to pick a best since many have advantages in certain areas where others aren’t even capable of being judged. That’s the kicker I guess by having an attribute to judge but is “N/A”. So that will either break my best down to either 3 separate categories or I’m going to have to come up with another direction to take the judging system. Will just have to think about it a little longer. Any ideas welcome!
Here are thoughts as of now
Best all around
Best all around capable of horizontal
Best all around not capable of horizontal
I don’t really like that idea but that’s where I’m at right now.
Rob, do you have any CLYW throws?and what about GenYo? I love my chief and don’t have any GenYo yet but hear so many great things like we say about our “best” when people talk about GenYo.
Yup. I have (had) some GenYos, G2s, TPs, Oxys, One Drops, vsNYYCs, NSCos, DS, CLYWs, and more. I don’t have a chief though.
All of these are top notch throws. My favorites by far are the Japanese throws. I love YYR across the board, TP’s MaxBet is still a top fave, Anglam and Anglam CC (prefer the CC) all are better fits for me than the rest of the collection.
I like thge M10 and KLR, but not as much as the 4 listed above. I like the Summit and BvM and Skywalker and Battosai, and Triton, and Wrath, but not as much as the 4 above.
I don’t think I own a bad yoyo to be honest, except maybe some of the low cost deal sweeteners I picked up along the way. None of them speak to me as loudly as the ANglam CC, Dazzler, Draupnir and MaxBet. That is my top tier, and the Dazzler stood alone on the top of that pile until tonight. The draupnir is winning me over.
I was looking for one in the BST when I decided I needed to stop spending. I would not mind getting my hands on one at some point. I figure I’ll make it to the MA or NH club one of these days. Someone will have one for sure.
Everyone loved the summit, and it did very little for me. It is my smoothest yoyo, and it does play great, just not my cup of tea. I preferred the BvM, which I think is a tremendously fun yoyo.
Since I need to focus my collection a bit (unless my startup really launches soon) I decided Ti and YYR are the driving forces for me. In the longer term, I am expecting that the day will be not far off where I have all the TPs, CLYWs and sOMEThINGS, DSs, and NSCOs. Probably Sturm Panzer too. Right now, that is just a little cost prohibitive to chase after.
Actually, I believe the raised nipple in the center of the hub on older YYR’s was part of the design. Based on my reading, someone with knowledge on the situation stated that YYR had to remove the nipple because it compromised the strength of the hub. I’m not sure how true this is from a design perspective, just echoing what I read.
MLYYM, about the best yoyo: I’ve tried lots of throws. Titaniums, aluminums, woods, delrins, and so on. Not as many as some members, but I’ve definitely used my fair share of throws. For me, certain yoyos have intangible qualities that I like that are very hard to explain. I have an Anglam CC, and have played the regular model. It’s a great yoyo in terms of performance, but it isn’t my favorite. Even though I’ve tried/owned more expensive throws, the Code 1 has a feeling about that no other throw has been able to replicate for me. Even through all the YYR, CLYW, Turning Point, General Yo, etc. that I’ve tried, I always seem to gravitate towards my Code 1’s, and I honestly can’t tell you why.
And, on a semi related note, I’m hoping they come out with more colored Draupnir’s–hopefully a Purple w/green rims (I know Mr. Giroux would love that ;)), or maybe an OG Bape colorway…
Can anyone help me identify this throw? The person I got it off said that it was a prototype Blink that he got off “insert japanese name that I’m probably supposed to know here” at a contest. Don’t get me wrong, I know its a Blink because it looks exactly like the prototype Blink on Billybob’s, however whilst the cups are raw, the catch zone is blasted, unlike the other protos…
It seems real to me, my bootleg Overdrive plays very poorly whereas this little fellow has all the spin and power of a real YYR. It’s a great little throw and I don’t plan on selling it or anything, just wanted to know if you guys could shed some light on it’s origins.
I’m not liking its lack of stability so far is all I can say now. Only thrown for two short sessions. Pretty though lol!
But this is one reason why I may think some other throws are superior. My lack of ability to keep it stable. The dazzler is just so so stable and so is the chief and that is most likely why I praise them as much as I do. The Draupnir is stable just not like some others.
Although the draupnir has grown on me a bunch since my first night, I agree it is not as stable as the dazzler, and I also find this the most important attribute, as I too am a relative noob.
Yoyos that I once considered my best (MaxBet, Anglam CC, Attune) have definitely taken a back seat to the dazzler for this reason.
