So, when people are talking about getting a Dazzler - wasn’t that pre-order only? Or, are they already gone? I tried to contact YYR but got no reply. I feel so clueless even though I check every day.
I did see the pre-order from that certain Asian site. I held-off because the last time I ordered from them it took over a month to get it through customs.
I have to say that while I will definitely pick up a Draupnir at some point, I will not pick up a Dazzler, almost on principle right now, simply because of this mess of releases/lack of knowledge. I get the impression they have no real desire right now to appeal to the American/European market, and seem to be doing everything they can to make these releases as bizarre as possible. Couple that to the cost, and I’m out. I mean, not that they care, they’ll still sell all of them, but I’m also getting rid of some of my other YYR product, partially because as a customer I’ve lost a lot of respect for them, and I will avoid buying their stuff for a while I think. It just all seems so odd. I’m not someone to hover over a refresh button to get the ‘latest and greatest’ immediately, and so this kind of business practice infuriates me. Again, this has no bearing on anything really except that this thread seems a good place to vent/discuss. I just think it’s a shame.
I will admitt that the way the dazzler was sold was the weirdest thing I’ve ever bought. It wasn’t listed on any site and I was given a number to reach someone by iPhone app. I contacted them and bought the dazzler after a couple of hours of chatting (? Weird?) and then was told I bought a preorder but there were only 3 left and mine would ship right after I completed the payment.
Then. An hour later the Dazzler showed up on their site as preorder but sold out. I have no clue how that was a marketing strategy but have bought other rare throws from places (probably most popular site) without them being listed “at all” even after they were sold out.
I’m sure with these limited runs its like first come (with cash) first serve. Like they are even being sold to people that work there I would bet, especially with the other throw I mentioned. If someone wants something this rare they will find out how to get it is my thinking since they will sell out very very quickly. I’d rather it be this way than have web servers crash or people get them into carts only to not be able to buy them. I’ve bought World Series tickets and that is not fun!!! Prices double and triple in seconds since getting items into carts is only the first step in the purchase process. I literally was on the site to get 2 tickets to WS game 7 in St. Louis in 2011 and had 5 sets of tickets in my cart trying to checkout in under 1 minute before I ended up paying three times as much for nose bleeds 70 seconds later.

I was weak and bought my second Draupnir. I just love the tempered rims on the second one. She is a Beauty !!
This is probably one of the nicest YoYo’s I have ever thrown. I’ve treated myself to just about every “High End” YoYo available that I wanted to own, and the Draupnir certainly falls in my “Top Three” favorite category. As much as I love Titanium YoYo’s, and have amassed quite a collection of Titanium throws, I would much rather spend the $200.00 for a Draupnir than spend three times the price for the ever so elusive “Dazzler”. It would be impossible for YoYorecreation to convince me that the Dazzler is worth three times more than the price of the Draupnir.
For those who are waiting for an anodized version of this YoYo, I hope your patience pays off because I feel everyone should have the opportunity to at least try one of these incredible throws.
I agree with YoYoGeezer in that the only other YoYo I own that equates to the feel of the Draupnir would have to be my Ti-Walker.
My hope is that YoYoRecreation can get back to producing some YoYo’s sometime soon though, because I just can not say enough great things about the Draupnir…I simply can not put it down. ;D
Awesome pictures. Just such a beautiful yoyo. The engravings, the shape, the play, heck if YYR ends up never making another yoyo again at least they left us with such an incredible design as a parting piece. Dang, now i want to pick up another one, just in case…
Yeah, the ano’d body release that is supposed to come out mid month. If it is going to be more than the tempered rims, then I’ll pass on waiting and just buy one now. I’d love to find the raw version available for purchase, but it seems to be sold out everywhere.
I think he means the ano’d body. No word yet. Usually YYR raw and anodized are the same price, but if the anodizing requires more machining with regards to fitting the rims or something then it could possibly add some to the cost, or they might make it more expensive anyway, because they can. The red ano we’ve seen looks different from their usual finishes so maybe that has something to do with the delay.
I am not sure that “weird” is the word I would use. Maybe “sketchy”?
This is quite a departure from what most if us have come to know and expect from this top-quality brand. “Sketchy”; is just not a word I would have thought I would ever use describing YYR.
Makes me so curious. I realize they’re basically just kids/young adults(i don’t actually know how old they are, but i assume 20’s) and i shouldn’t care, but i do have to wonder about the YYR/[big Japanese store]/Shinya/Kengo drama. If things don’t look like they’re getting in line in another couple weeks i’ll definitely be buying another Draupnir as it might turn out to be a good investment, or just as a nice spare should YYR implode in the future. That said they’re all active on their respective yoyo social network accounts, so i’m not too concerned, just think they’re going through a slow restructuring and it seems more “sketchy” to us just because we’re so out of the loop due to the language/geographic barriers. If they could just say “no big deal, we’re finding new machinists and working on some brand new innovative designs to be released later this year” it would all be explained, but we don’t have that luxury.
Well said. Lets hope that they are busily working on new additions to their line. I am already dreaming of a smaller version of the Draupnir; like the Stargazer is to the Sleipnir.
