Draupnir is the best yoyo i own and have ever played. Honestly for the money it’s still a deal. Feels very YYR on a throw, definitely no mistaking it for anything else. Just so good.
How is the bearing fit? Also, is the axle a bit longer than on some of the older models?
I’m also waiting for color. I hope they do more than just red…
I was talking with some who bought a draupnir at worlds and he had spoken with Kengo’s about the red ones and apparently they only made 3 and they were “team only”.
I managed to chat a little with Kengo in hopes that he or one of the other YYR guys would have an Acrophobia I could try out. Unfortunately none of them did :-\ He also mentioned that EVERYTHING before the draupnir has been discontinued. He said that he wanted to start fresh and work on taking his designing to the next level. That was a bit of bittersweet info from the man himself.
Well I took the plunge and grabbed a Draupnir.
I actually prefer the RAW versions, that way I know that I’m getting as smooth a YoYo possible, free from any minute amount of vibe that could be created by the anodization process.
Of the few YoYo’s I have purchase that were RAW, all of them turned out to be really smooth. I had one of them anodized, and it came back with just a slight amount of vibe.
Anyway, I’m just really happy to have been able to grab one at all.
Can’t wait to give it a try.
And I can’t wait to see your photo’s of it!!!
@stickman, do let us know about your Draupnir’s journey from Japan to your doorstep!
And photos. From the package at your door to the box to the throw.
The limited number of photos out there aren’t doing the Draupnir justice.
And i’ve talked to my middleman just now (he took my deposit for a red Draupnir) and according to him, Kengo says the red one will be done by the end of September.
I’ll have to push back my review even further. Grr.
Wait.
Every single yoyo YYR has ever made, except the Draupnir is gone forever?!
I’m not sure i’ve opened it, maybe i did when i first got it, can’t remember, i think i might have. If so it was to change the bearing and i don’t remember it being an issue. Likewise i’m not sure what the axle is like, obviously somewhat short given the flat hub, but not exceptionally so that i’ve seen.
All the previous metal models.
No Problem…
I’ll give you a run-down of the entire purchasing experience. I’m a bit curious as to how long it will take to receive it, though my other purchases out of Japan have arrived within a week.
Anyway, I’ll update you as I know myself.
Most of the stuff I’ve ordered from YYR have come through in under a week. Finally managed to get in an order for a Draupnir before they sold out again. Quite excited to see just how good this thing is.
You guys are killing me here… I am trying to wait!!! hehe…
I have a question for you all. I recently bought a yoyo monster Basileus and absolutley LOVE it. I have owned my share of YoYo Joker (Uroboros, Double Joker, Strider) Turning Point (Lev 3, Positron, RT) and YYR (Messiah, Stargazer, Sleipnir) I know Geezer has a good amount of Monster’s in his lineup. Do any of you have them?? I really find them (or at least the Basileus) to be a FANTASTIC throw. The quality fit and finish is excellent and the play is just so good!!!
I keep meaning to try some of the Yoyo Monster stuff but there always seems to be another YYR beckoning.
I agree with them guys killing me too. I am waiting for the anodized ones.
I guess I’ll have to add Monster to the list. Not tried them yet.
Ifyou have a clash cube or six ft hmu.
Back to subject! I tried a clash cube and sure did pack a punch! The little guy is AMAZING
I agree, clash cube is amazing. Haven’t played my 6 yet. It is my only yoyo I have never played. It came missing a response. Didn’t have one in the right size. Just got the flowable today finally. Will silicone it this weekend.
The Six is super nice. I got a gold one today, plays solid and powerfully. You can tell it was built for Takahiro Iizuka.
For those who didn’t jump the gun / bite the bullet / burn a hole in wallet, the Draupnir is out of stock.
Other things i learnt - YYR has now started selling IrPads as well. At least there’s more options to buy than from you-know-where. New colorways for Aeronaut as well, green and smoke black.
I am assuming since draupnir is the future of YYR, and the old models are discontinued, we’ll see colors some time in the future. I can wait. I want one colored.
