I received my Draupnir today. It took six days, counting the weekends. I must say that it surprised me in a number of ways; all of which were positive.
First, as many have already said, the Draupnir plays very light and fast, but has the stability and spin one would expect from a much heavier, more substantial throw. I think that is the quality that truly stands out: stability, spin-time combined with a lighter weight than we might expect from a solid-metal yoyo.
Second, I was surprised by the construction of the yoyo. The pictures had led me to believe that the Draupnir had weight rings. Well it does; sort of. The âringsâ are just like the rings on the Sturm Panzer Stealth Ogre; but in miniature. The stainless steel rings actually fit over the Aluminum shell instead of being fitted inside, or part of the yoyo. With the Draupnir, the rings are machined down so that its profile blends with the shell perfectly; unlike the Ogre which has the rings prominently mounted to the aluminum shell. This gives the Draupnir a much more complex relationship with its weight rings than many other designs. Does it make a difference? Well, I am not sure. What I am sure of is that the Draupnir has the best weight/(spin time X stability) than any other throw out there. It seems to get better every time I play it.
I think that the Draupnir is the first of a coming new line from YYR. I can see this design taking on many permutations just like the older design did. The variety that can be imagined, however, is probably just the tip of their creative iceberg.
And I hate you for it. I had that throw in my cart. I was looking at some other stuff (got a little of everything they had on sale I didnât already have, and was doing a quick research on their plastic), and when I went to check out, they were out of stock.
Curse you! frowning of a life timeangry fist shaking
That said, nice score. Hopefully weâll see more of these, and Iâll get one in the future, maybe with some color (if they do that).

I did not know about this thing ⌠I did not buy often from the United States and, perhaps for the low declared value, they never went to customs, so in that respect I never had any problems ⌠I was lucky! :
perhaps a way to bypass the problem can be generically declare âtoyâ instead of âyoyoâ⌠however the U.S. yoyo stores has always shipping in ItalyâŚ
Glad you enjoy it. I really like mine. And yeah i really like the way they attached the rings. Definitely different than the approach most companies have taken where they just fit them inside the outer rim of the cup. If you go to the 4:00 mark in this video you can see what i believe to be a Draupnir being test thrown before the rings are attached: http://vimeo.com/67870567
Basically a thin fin around the rim that the weight ring slips over, which puts the weight even farther out than the typical method and makes for a very interesting yoyo.
So I know this is the YYR thread, but the Krown was talked about a few pages back so I thought you guys would appreciate it anyway.
My Krown came today, and it is awesome, just flat out a joy to throw. Its smooth, beautiful, spins foreverâŚit seriously is fantastic. Iâve only had it for a day and already its in my top three. If youâve got some spare cash to burn, this baby is well worth it. I couldnât help it with 20 percent off on July 4th. http://i.imgur.com/QGlLm95l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rzcCvxol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TxaEdgxl.jpg
Iâve been on the hunt for a sleipnir but I havenât had any luck Would pay crazy good money for a Gold one. The only other YYR I have played is a E=MC2 and Stargazer and Iâm liking the Krown more than both, but just slightly. Like I said, I just got it, but it is doing everything I want it to and more. My top 3 throws right now is probably
Majesty
Krown
Stargazer
Its just one of those yoyos that âclicksâ for me
Got my Krown Friday i think. I really like it. Itâs one of those throws thatâs sort of middle of the road in every way, but in a good way. It doesnât feel super remarkable, plays a bit more heavy than the specs suggest, but is just all around great. Itâs not one of those yoyos that feels super special or unique when you first toss it, yet it eats up every trick and can do anything you ask it. Definitely one of the most versatile yoyos iâve ever played. All around a really fun yoyo. And if anyone was asking me what their first serious metal should be iâd definitely recommend it just because itâs so good at every style and every type of trick. Itâs totally average, but in this day and age thatâs really rare as we see more and more yoyos geared towards being wide, small, fast, floaty, etc. So donât take that the wrong way, itâs an awesome yoyo and i love mine. Would i pay $160 for it? Eh, maybe not. But i think mine was $130 from overseas, and for the YYE sale i guess they were $128 which is awesome for a 7075 signature yoyo, made by a great company, made in HK, nice ano, etc.
Havenât owned a Sleipnir in over a year so i donât feel qualified to make that comparison, i will say that the Krown feels similar to the Sleipnir in the same way that the Sleipnir was always recommended as a first YYR just because of its versatility and all-around ability.
Anyone knows whats up with the YYR shop to sell response pads individually? That took me by surprise when only one response came instead of the pair.
Is it common to only change 1 response pad?
The fragment, it flys on the string. Much faster than the sleipnir. Moves better too.
And ofc itâs smaller. And the main thing to notice, the insane spin of the fragment.
Okay, and now Draupnir to sleipnir.
The d
Draupnir does feel a tad smaller than the sleipnir, due to the flatter rims and H x V shape, rather than the traditional stepped V shape.
The sleipnir is known for being fast, great for horizontals and easy to maneuver.
The Draupnir has the lightness and maneuverability of the fragment. Which is defiantly better. It feels a bit heavy when you initially throw it/ catch it
But as soon as it leaves your hand, it moves with such ease in anyway you want it to go. You can get this thing to FLYYYYYYY or just chill out.
NathanC told me It was less like a sleipnir and more like an Overdrive x Fragment. That is absolutely agreed.
Just the Draupnir is even more stable than the overdrive, sleipnir and fragment. Itâs absolutely an insane and crushing yoyo.

I donât know.
In Italy the metal yoyo are considered toys, and are sold by specialty stores as such, without any problem and without any age restriction ⌠or there are errors in the classifications of the customs tables or is it a bureaucratic misunderstanding ⌠other ideas donât come to my mind.
âItâs absolutely an insane and crushing yoyo.â
I could not have said it better.
Your observation about the feel of the Draupnir on the initial throw is right on. It is amazing how this feels like the Sturm Panzer in this regard. It feels almost heavy on the throw; but once in motion, it plays like a smaller throw; almost like it is finally free.
The Draupnir is the only yo-yo I have thrown that feels like the Ti Walker to me. It is a beast for stability and spin, as well as being light an maneuverable. What more could you want?

If the feeling that this is, I think it is also similar to that from the phenom of Jam
Personally, I have never thought the Phenom played like the Ti Walker at all. The Phenom is more of a knife in the air - like the Anglam; deliberate and fast. The Ti Walker has super spin and stability combined with a lightness that is unique. The Draupnir, however, plays very much like the Ti Walker, to me, when in motion. It feels very free and light.
Uber-Beast.
I am not sure what you mean by DSBearing. What is that?
