yoyofficer’s new bimetal is tight. it’s easily one of my favorite bimetals in its unique weight and float that is rare with bimetal yoyos. most bimetals feel like a hunk at the bottom of the string (which i don’t mind, actually), but the shift is really fantastic and is only going to cost you $75. as for the rave, i never was a huge fan of the rave. i also dont like the nightmare lol so they’re both pretty much the same to me: decent but i wouldn’t go out of my way to own one.
the yoyofficer tusk is also super good. ill compare it to the new genesis which retails for around the same price as the tusk. the tusk is a little overasized and has a bit of a bouncier feel to it than the genesis; the genesis, however, beats the tusk. the genesis has always been a favorite of mine and i love practically every version that yoyofactory has made of it. it has a fantastic diameter that is neither too big not small and has a really nice weight. additionally it can handle like every style of yoyoing (1a,3a,5a) exceptionally well.
that being said, the tusk is really good. i just really love the genesis so in comparison most other yoyos are sub par. the tusk really is great, though. I like it better than the czechpoint, the new boss (which i rather dislike), and the shutter.the tusk is super stable and handles tech and horizontal play quite well.
over all, it’s a matter of taste. try yoyofficers and see if you dig them. I feel like people just shy away from YYO because YYF is the well-established alternative. give them a shot, you might like them.
I managed to snag a Tusk and Shift early (yesterday) locally, really enjoying them! Playing the Shift begs the question: “Did I only just pay $75 for this?” as it’s a really solid player and dead smooth. Tusk has an interesting feel that’s hard to describe. Bit floaty, doesn’t have that rim weighty feel but manages to hold its power and stability.
yeah. definitely the tusk and the shift are fantastic. I can’t comment much on the other designs besides the rave, imp, and kilter2, but I feel like, just as it is with all yoyo companies, you need to try stuff via yoyo club or contest or even online trading and see what you like the accumulate a collection.
