YoyoFactory: New Genesis, Aluminum Dream & Nightmare

How come in the photo they made the rims look goldish? It looks amazing like this. Would have been great to have the choice.

I got my Nightmare a few days ago, but finally got a chance to play it today. It’s really, really, a great playing throw. It’s nice and solid and stable how I love my throws, and now I’m confused which one is the best, the titanium, the aluminum or the bimetal. I’ll have to spend more time with it to render an opinion on which one is the best. But seriously, this one is GREAT!

And now we wait for TAs signature studio shots.

Was looking at photos of the Nightmare and came across the innards and how its set up. First off, the bearing seat looks like there’s barely anything even there which concerns me. There’s also a very short axle which concerns me even more - like how easy is it going to be to strip these things?

^ I don’t make yo-yos, so I can’t comment on most of that, just know that it plays great. You can always put a longer axle in it though.

@Heero I’m working in slow motion these days, but I’ll have the shots done by tonight and definitely post them up tomorrow.

woooord!!

It saddens me to say but I will not have the funds to pick up a nightmare. Looks like ill miss my chance to get a death nightmare. Oh well. Maybe ill see it on the bst some day.

How? The yoyo will not screw all the way together if there’s not enough space for the longer axle. I know this from experience because YYF makes it so that the axle and the hole are really close in length, nont really space to change lengths

The reason why I express concern is because years ago I had a Duncan Raptor. That yoyo has a pretty short axle and the bearing seat seems to be slightly shorter than the rest of my yoyos. My Raptor had taken a tumble off my shelf and onto my hard floor. I saw that the yoyo had been split apart. As I went to screw it back together I noticed it was not threading at all, was just sitting. I had also noticed some metal shards on the ground and some coming out of the hole the axle threads into. With there being very little for that axle to grab onto, it was able to rip those 3 layers of thread right out to where the yoyo would not even screw together at all.

Not that I ever plan on dropping a yoyo onto the floor, I can see this being a potential problem when doing maintenance on the yoyo. My replacement Raptor feel very fragile when reassembling it as again, there’s that short reach.

I could be overthinking this but I’m judging off of what I’ve experienced with a yoyo with a similar setup combined with photos I found.

I get you, Gumball. I don’t like short axles and bearing seats either. They cause the problems you mentioned and can be finicky to screw back together straight.

That’s not always the case. I switched axles in my Titanium Dream, and it fits great. I have a lot less time these days, so I haven’t tried with the Nightmare though. As long as the throw works great the way it is, I’m cool with it this way. It hasn’t even been a concern for me to try. It plays amazing, that’s for sure.

Now, for the photos I promised. My Nightmare has a dark side and a light side. :o I kinda prefer the dark side.

Wonder if the Nightmare will accept a slightly longer axle, hoping the hole is deep enough.

Anyone else with a Nightmare want to chime in on this? Trying to decide now if I should get it and how durable it will be.

If it isn’t broke…

Are the Nightmares a one-time kind of thing or will there be more releases in the future?

I was going to say, they’re all going to have different weight distributions due to the materials. The Aluminum has chunkier rims compared to the titanium to compensate and bring similar stability.

The Plastic (Daydream) is an oversized.

I’m still torn about getting one, not sure if it’s going to play too similar to my Pulsefire (overall shape is very similar)…plus my concerns of the short seat/axle combo.

The design has an attractive simplicity to to it i think.

Also, from what I’ve read they have put more thought into the design than appears.

I’m really really looking forward to throwing my new Aluminium Dream.

I find it interesting the way YYF is releasing the Dream shape in basically every form. It’s become an intriguing part of their catalog and reminds me a bit of the One Drop Benchmark series. You could look at the Dream shape as sort of their own benchmark shape now.

Similar approach to One Drop and the Benchmark. OD basically just kept the weights and sizes the same while using different shapes for different weight distributions.

YYF looks like they’re keeping it more as a particular shape and using different materials to create a very similar throw.

I think you can assume that the high-end Nightmare is less likely to break than the low-end Raptor. I’ve had yo-yo’s with minuscule axles for long periods of time-- had them be my beater, in fact-- that never stripped (Irony JP and Luis Enrique Citrus Genesis).

The new Genesis will definitely need to find its way into my collection. The Genesis is my favorite YYF yo-yo hands down, and it seems like every model (besides the 2012 ones) has trumped its predecessor.
